Default "Magnesium and epsom salts confirmed."

This recent post 12/05/2012 from NeuroTalk - Parkinson's support group deems worthy of a bump to be shared here in our TBI-PCS neighborhood:
"magnesium and epsom salt confirmed".

And here's the original post weblink: http://www.natmedtalk.com/f52/20073-...bsorption.html

I've posted previously of the benefits I've been enjoying using Walgreen's lavender epsom salts for a relaxing and soothing soak, particularly before bedtime. Helps me relax more to sleep better. And taking the magnesium supplement at night, as indicated by Mark.

Happy soaking!

Theta

ThetaZ: I did get the relaxation by using lavendar salts from amazon. Now I get all products with some lavendar in it

My doctor tested for Magnesium disorder/deficiency and every thing came back fine (close to upper limit in range). Do I still need to take it? My thing is magnesium known to cause stomach upset and I have a very sensitive stomach. Which supplement you are taking and any stomach issues? Even one of the famous(!) Neurologist here gives magnesium through IV for headaches. Wonder should I go there and get through IV

Cheers!

pcslife,

Glad that you also are getting the relaxation benefits from the lavender epsom salts, and other lavender products, as well as a good report on your magnesium levels.

I too tested fine with Mg level recently.
Sorry to hear of your stomach sensitivity with some supplements.
I don't have the sensitive stomach issue you mentioned, at least not with Mg.

I take a Nature's Way Magnesium Complex - Citrate Blend / one 500 mg. tab. ; nor do I always take it every night routinely; more on as needed basis to help with relaxation, sleep.

Very interesting and progressive of the neurologist there in the D.C. metro area who offers Mg-IV treatment for headaches!
How are your headaches of late? Does the Mg supplement seem to be a factor for your headache relief?

Thanks for the good news, pcslife.

This other famous Neurologist wants me to first go up on Amitryptyline to 50 mg (I was taking 10 mg with no relief) before do the IVF. So I backed out. 50 mg I won't be able to handle. Even with 10 mg I was fatigued so bad. I never had sleep issue when they put me on this but helped my stomach so kept taking it.

My dull headaches still there but I don't take any painkillers no tylenol, no ibuprofen. Mine is like a pressure feeling or a bowling ball in head. I know it is coming from my dizziness bcuz a bit more Xanax relieves lot of symptoms temporarily. Even this afternoon I did some blood work in hospital (not sure why my doc wants to do bcuz it will show nothing) While I was sitting in the closed room waiting for some one to come draw my blood my head pressure built up, felt dizzy, nauseous and wanted to lie down or get out. After my mTBI I also became claustrophobic.

But lying down is not an option bcuz they take me to ER downstairs and they don't take a chance knowing my history. CT scan, Blood work, Morphin etc., though Morphin felt good last time but I am not going down that road I want them to draw the blood so I can get out. Also I have to drive back (only few miles). So sitting there thinking should I take Zofran or Xanax and took a .125 mg of Xanax. I carry anywhere I go. Yes relieved my symptoms and came home safe Driving gets lot easier when I take Xanax.

I am thinking about getting this sublingual Mg from Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Source-Natural...ets+sublingual

Also thinking about getting about some CDP Choline since I do have cognitive and vision issues. I have an appointment with Neuro-Opthamalogist (doubt he is going to find anything but my Neurologist wants me to try).

So the search continues. Now I am not rushing for anything since there is no guarantee for anything we try. But I will keep trying.

Cheers!

Hi Theta, pcs,

Sorry to jump in but magnesium really upset my stomach. I can't take it any more, even with an organic brand (nordic naturals). I had tried the mag with the coq10 combo to help headache, seemed to help for while but long term not much difference. Maybe IV can help?

Also notice same thing with stomach for Omega3, coQ10, and Mag supplements.

Thanks postconcussion. I am in a similar boat like you. Sensitive to vitamins and supplements. Thought I took B6, B12, Folic acid, Biotin - sublingual for a long time. Didn't make any difference for my symptoms. Luckily my blood work comes out fine. Only Vitamin D was low last year and I corrected with D3 supplement (infact over corrected .

Thought I can try magnesium since I heard(?) it calms the nerves and helps with brain zaps. During withdrawal of Effexor, anti-depressants etc, some seems to have that brain zaps. I do get that some times though I quit amitryptiline long time ago. This Mg is sublingual and that is the only reason thinking about trying.

CDP Choline also seems to like doesn't mess up stomach like other nootropics. What a crazy medicine, supplement, therapy world and it is tiring?
