There are several "Mega Men" types.
This is the regular Mega Men: http://www.gnc.com/GNC-Mega-Men/prod...ductId=4033432 Is this what you have? 1) you'll need separate B12, preferably methyl form and not cyano which is synthetic. 2) The magnesium is not absorbed, in Oxide form so you can't count on that in the vitamin. So you'd need magnesium in a chelated form (citrate, gluconate, glycinate, etc) or SlowMag which is designed to be well absorbed and tolerable. (no laxative actions). Depending on your D status --you would need a test to see where you are. 1600 IUs is the safe level for people with no testing. After testing you could add 1000IUs for every 10 pts you need to raise to get to at least a value of 50. I don't think you need any other vits. But consider fish oil or Krill oil separately. |
GNC MegaMen only has 50 mcgs of B-12. The suggested B-12 dose is 1000 to 2500 mcgs. The D3 is only 1600 IU's. That's a great start but many take 2500 to 5000 IU's daily.
The RDA's (Recommended Daily Allowance) of vitamins are the minimum amounts needed to be healthy. The injured brain needs more of B's and others mentioned. |
Picked up Omega 3-6-9, B-12 1000 mcg, B-complex w/ electrolytes and vitamin c, and Calcium (thought it had magnesium but it doesn't). Don't have a GNC around here, will order the multi soon.
Hope this is a good start. |
The B Complex with electrolytes and C is likely horribly low dosage. But, it is a start. If it is similar to those available online, 200 mgs of Vit C is not enough. 500 to 1000 mgs is better. The B dosages are also low. B-50 Complex has 50 mgs of most B's and 50 mcgs of B-12.

Okay here's what I've got:
GNC Mega Men One Daily Vitamin World Mega B-50 with 50 mgs of most B's and 400 of Folic Acid VW B-Complex with Electrolytes and Vitamin C VW Calcium + D3 250 IU's of D and 1200 mgs of calcium VW Triple Omega 3-6-9 VW Timed-release B-12 1000 mcg VW Magnesium 500 mg Is there a best time or way to take these? Should I just do the recommended dosage. Thanks for the help. Today I've been feeling better and hopeful. |
Is that magnesium OXIDE form?
The Mega Men vitamin has 50mg of B1, B2, B5, and B6 in it. I would think this is enough, and the other not necessary at this time. B12 should be methylcobalamin taken separately, at least 1000mcg/tablet on an empty stomach. If you take more than 50mg of the B's, daily watch for side effects. We see people on our PN forum here who cannot tolerate higher doses of them. |
Yes, oxide.
|
The B-12 is "as Cyanocobalamin"
|
Oxide is not absorbed. You need the other types I
Suggested. Oxide is a laxative -- remains in the bowel,. SlowMag, or a chelated type-- gluconate, citrate, glycinate, Etc. foods high in magnesium also-- Food suggestions at slowmag.com |
crap, I just bought so much vitamin then. You're saying I should only take the multi?
