Is there any researches you know about Bcomplex and TBI,
What I have seen is that B vitamins dont have any influence on cognition. |

You are free to research what you feel you need.
The vitamins are different than the Omega-3s in the brain. Omega-3s are incorporated into cell structures. DHA forms nerves and receptor locations. Consider them as building blocks. They are best consumed as grams in amount. The B's are mostly metabolic. They are cofactors in enzymes that the body uses for tissue repair and growth and maintenance. So these are needed in smaller milligram amounts. Thiamine for example B1, when low causes a form of psychosis. I am not a doctor so what I am about to say is strictly based off personal experience =}
I have been experimenting with Niacin and Omega 3's to see if it will help some of my symptoms. Dr. Abram Hoffer did research with Niacin and Vitamin C on schizophrenia patients and patients with dementia and saw significant improvement. Also Niacin has been seen as an effective treatment for depression. Since some tbi symptoms include depression I have been taking large doses 1000mg 3x day and have noticed improvement in my mood and some of the depression and mind numbness that I've experienced. I'll post about it again in a about a month to see if there really have been improvements. I also emailed a doctor who has had great results with fish oil and brain injury recovery. He and his partner are using fish oil in their neurology practice and seeing good results in regard to pain and cognitive functioning. His website is Brainhealtheducation.org I am interested also if other PCS/TBi survivors are using B vitamins and Niacin and if they're seeing any improvements in their symptoms. =}

hi there,
thanks for the great advice in this thread! Anyhow, was about to order L-T on amazon UK to aid sleep but got slightly spooked by the review below re Source Minerals brand... any thoughts? As an alternative Swanson is generally a good brand is it not? I note there is some evidence that 5-HTP can cause EMS too? While it is possible the Amazon person is telling the truth, it is also possible that the facts are not all known about that person to exclude the other possibilities. Reviews on Amazon are always subject to inaccuracies.

Could someone post the exact brands they take of the various vitamins? I realize brands don't matter but it is difficult to find exactly the right type of B-50 complex, for example. Many of them have B-12 that isn't in the methyl form. If I knew the exact brand then I could just buy that one.

The brand Jarrow is very good. Over the years they have improved their formulas to match the researh developing.
Many people over the years here and our previous board have used B-right with lots of success. It is mostly 25mg B's and some find that easier to tolerate. It has activated forms for 3 of the B as well. http://www.iherb.com/Jarrow-Formulas...1&sr=null&ic=1 It can be found on Amazon and other online sources. It remains reasonably priced and high quality. The B12 in any mixture will be too small to work well. Best to take that separately on an empty stomach. There are many choices of methylB12 on iherb as well.

I just looked up B-right on amazon.. the top review blasts the product for containing folic acid (something about it being carcinogenic). Is there any validity to this?

Folic acid is needed for proper nerve function. It helps with the blood brain barrier. The studies are of people taking high doses of folic acid. (800 mcgs or more daily) The common dose is 400 mcgs
Try telling women who are trying to get pregnant to not take folic acid. Taking it is the best way to reduce risk of neuro defects in infants.
