So that magnesium seems better than most mixtures we have here in US.

Therapeutic B-complexes in US usually start at 50mg of each item. B-right has 25mg of most. Still these are much higher than your combined products.

I do not think your B12 will be of much usefulness however. Most people use a high dose separately, here.

Liza-PCS,

It appears you are taking a total of 505.2 ug of B-12. I take 2500 ug of B-12. I was taking 500 ug of B-12 for years but the smaller dose has become hard to find. Common dosages are 2500 to 5000 ug. mcg is the same as ug. Both refer to micrograms.

As mrsD says, your B-12, especially that in the multis (5.2 ug) is likely ineffective. The separate 500 ug of B-12 is hopefully methycobalamin. If it is cyanocobalamin, it may not be absorbed well.

It is not uncommon for people to take 50 to 100 mgs of B-6.

It appears you are using the RDA percentages as your guide. RDA's are only meant as a guideline to prevent malnutrition.

Hi everybody!

I just need some opinions on the vitamins I'm taking after a concussion I suffered back in December during a thaiboxing bout. I didn't go unconscious and the doctor I went to said I didn't suffer a concussion after doing the finger test on me, despite having massive headaches she said it was due to head trauma. I wasn't suffering from any symptoms besides headache and therefore thinking I didn't have a concussion, I went drinking about 5-6 times afterwards and 2 weeks after the fight I was in lala-land, thinking I was dreaming life and in a fog with all the symptoms you can name. Anyway, currently suffering from PCS as of late March.

Right now I'm taking:

* B-12 500 mcg (Should I up this to 1000?)
* B-Vitamin Complex which contains
Thiamin (as mononitrate) 50 mg
Riboflavin 50 mg
Niacin (as niacinamide) 50 mg
Vitamin B6 (as pyridoxine HCl) 50 mg
Folic Acid 400 mcg
Vitamin B1 mcg
Biotin 50 mcg
Panthotenic Acid 50 mg
Choline (as bitartrate) 50 mg
Para-Aminobenzoic Acid 50 mg

*Active Care Man multivitamin 2 pills a day (Tried to link what it contains, but I don't have enough posts.)
Detremin 20 000 IU/ml (This is like D-vitamin, I take 20 drops a week which should equal about 14 000 IE)
*Star Nutrition's Magnesium 1 pill per day, 243 mg
*Lion's mane 1 pill a day (just started on this today)

Any suggestions on what I should improve or what to remove?

Regards

JayB,

Welcome to NeuroTalk.

Your vitamin regimen looks good. I suggest you up the B-12 like you thought. Is it methyl B-12 or cyano b-12 ?

I could not google the multi you take. maybe the name is not precise.

I'd add some anti-oxidants and fish oil.

Add Vit E (400 iu), Vit C (1000 mgs) and good Omega 3 fish oil.

Have you decided about your future with thaiboxing ?

You should start a thread in the main forum so we can discuss how to help you with other symptoms you are having. The stickies are not good for back and forth discussion.

Thanks for having me!

It's cyano, made by TWINLAB

Hmm, well the multivitamin brand is swedish, but I can translate the ingredients here:
Biotin 50 μg
Folic Acid 300 μg
Niacin 18 mg
Pantothenic acid 6 mg
Riboflavin 1,5 mg
Thiamine 1,3 mg
Vitamin A 225 μg
Vitamin B12 2 μg
Vitamin B6 1,6 mg
Vitamin C 225 mg
Vitamin D 10 μg
Vitamin E 10 mg
Calcium 200 mg
Iron 9 mg
Iodine 150 μg
Copper 0,9 mg
Magnesium 87,5 mg
Manganese 2 mg
Molybdenum 50 μg
Selenium 60 μg
Zink 9 mg

Yeah about the fish oil, I forgot to mention that I'm actually taking a brand called Eskimo-3 in pill form. I take two capsules a day. One capsule contains 1000 mg with 350 mg fatty acid, 160 mg EPA and 100 mg DHA.

Alright, I'll buy the antioxidants tomorrow then.

Yes, I haven't laced up my boots since that fight and I don't plan on to. I'm retired.

I'm not impressed with the multi. It has very low doses of many valuable vitamins and minerals but you should not be taking multiples a day because it has 300 um (mcgs) of folic acid. Combined with the 400 um in your B-Complex, you are at the max dose amount of 1000 um daily. Even at two a day, the other ingredients are weak.

The B-12 would be better as methylcobalamin. a 1000 ug of methyl B-12 would be good.

Everyone needs to be careful when taking multi-vitamins. Taking more than one to get a better dose of the valuable ingredients can lead to overdosing on things like folic acid, selenium, and some of the trace elements.

mrsD can add more to this issue.

Apparantly the dosage for the multivitamin refers to two pills, so it's even less minerals than we thought.

I was looking at the GNC Men, but since they're so many versions of it, I'm having trouble knowing which one you're refering to in your original post. Can you please link me the one you're talking about? I don't have it here, have to order it online.

Alright I just ordered the methyl version of the B-12 now from the web.

And a suggestion... take that methylB12 on an empty stomach.
Food impairs absorption of the tiny micrograms available for passive absorption in the intestine.

I've noticed that I've been getting heart palpitations and shortness of breath everytime I lay down, and it's started ever since I've been taking the B-Complex, today I stopped using it and already I feel much better when I lay down. Any ideas on which ingredient causes this?

Also, if I'm not able to take this anymore, should I still take my methyl-B12?

Yes, still take the B12.

Stop the others and see what happens. Do you take the Bcomplex in the morning? Morning is best with it.

You can take all the vitamins with food, except the B12 needs
an empty stomach.
