Hi Everyone,
I'm 4 months post accident where I fell off a horse and suffered a concussion and upper cervical C1/C2 injury. Since my accident I have taken Tylenol and Advil for pain, but am trying to use alternative treatment methods other than prescriptions. I have been prescribed Amitriptyline, Noretriptyline and Topomax, but not yet tried any. I had two sets of nerve blocks done, but am going to stop them for now because I don't feel they are worthwhile. I have been seeing a Chiropractor (2x week), Osteopath, Homeopathic Doctor, Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture for my treatment. Although I still have daily headaches, there is an improvement in their severity and my overall energy levels and ability to cope. I would love to hear from anyone else who is trying alternative methods before going on any prescriptions. How often are your treatments? How long until you started to notice improvement? Thanks! Hi there!
Glad to hear you are looking towards alternative medicine. I began with meds and found that they were not helping fully. I finally turned towards acupuncture and found a lot of relief. However, it was when i started receiving Healing Touch and learning to do Healing Touch on myself that I really started to heal in every sense of the word. My depression subsided, the headaches went away, I felt more energy, dizziness stopped, and I felt healthier, happier, and more positive. I am now in the process of becoming a certified Healing Touch Practitioner. I am in my one year apprenticeship. Ive probably given over 400 treatments to others since I started a year and a half ago. Ive done lots of treatments on people with headaches and migraines and have had great success. People are in awe of how simple it is to reduce pain with energy work. Healing Touch is energy based medicine that is done in hospitals and in private practices. It works with your bodies energy system to help clear congestion that is built up in and around our bodies. It works with all aspects of the human energy field the physical body, emotional, mental, and spiritual. Its very similar to acupuncture but without the needles. If you want some more information, check out www.healingtouchinternational.org for a practitioner near you. Quote:

MRI and CT negative. Symptoms included constant headaches (migraine, pressure, tension, icepicks), dizziness, tinnitus, visual changes, photophobia, fatigue, "spacing out", word finding difficulties, depression, and emotional lability. Began Healing in November 2011 after starting acupuncture and Healing Touch (a nurturing energy therapy that promotes relaxation and pain relief). I went back to work in February 2012. Ive been symptom free since July 2012. Very happy, positive, energetic and working out every day, doing yoga, and living a normal life again! I also began taking Healing Touch classes in November 2011 and completed 5 Levels of Healing Touch Certificate Program that included a 1 year mentorship to become a Healing Touch International Practitioner in June 2013. I am so pleased to offer this wonderful healing therapy to my patients, friends, and clients. |

Is that the same thing has Reiki? --I had that when I had cancer and found it so relaxing I always left feeling better---my friends bought it for me as a gift. |

MG neck.....Healing Touch is very very similar to Reiki. They are both energy treatments that work on balancing the mind, body, emotions, and spirit. The difference is that Healing Touch is a compilation of different techniques that are used in the hospital to work on specific medical conditions or problems. The founder of Healing Touch was a nurse who created the program in 1989 and is accredited by the American Holistic Nursing Association. Its used throughout the country in hospitals.
I've had Reiki as well and enjoy it very much! Its very balancing and relaxing and helps with many types of problems. I've really grown attached to Healing Touch because of its use in my hospital system and how it has research to back it up, along with a very structured certification process. As a nurse, I find that its important to have a nursing process in what I am doing and Healing Touch has that.

CanadianKate,
Many of us have used chiro. There is a risk. Some chiros are far too aggressive, especially with the upper cervical vertebra. Check out upper cervical chiros. www.nucca.org and www.atlasorthagonal.org and ww.ucspine.org. The twist the head and pop chiro adjustment is the concern. There are many much more gentle techniques. Other than the head aches, what other symptoms are you struggling with? In case your chiro has not recommended it, you should be icing your upper neck as often as possible. 15 minutes on, 30 off. A zip lock baggie with 1 part rubbing alcohol and 3 parts water will freeze to a moldable ice pack. If your chiro did not recommend ice, it makes me think he is not a specialist in the fine treatment needs of the upper neck. Melatonin can be helpful with head aches for some. It also helps to monitor your blood pressure to see if it spikes and causes head aches. The adrenal dysfunction from a concussion can cause the BP problems. Tell us more about your struggles and we will try to help. My best to you.

Hi Kate,
I have no problems with anything u tried and should look all conservative treatment. The only concern I have is the chiro? Does your chiro do adjustments on your neck? I think accupuncture ,healing hands, all that is great!!!. Being a neck patient who had a fusion from c4 thru c7 --if you read post on spinal forum most of us are not big fans of the chiro. Been told many times the spine is not meant to be cracked or adjusted you can do more harm then good. What did they say about c1 and c2 --herinations?? --thats such a delicate and important area of the neck actually reading your post on the chiro esp in that area almost --to be honest made cringe. |
