Question Is This Ear Ringing Still & Vestibular Therapy & Ear Plugs

Ok every morning when I wake up I feel like my head is in a bubble and have sea shells on my ears....the sea shells on my ears stay all day but I only notice when in silence(about 60% of time).

I remember the loud ringing in the beginning it was nothing like this(Blessing)but I am trying to figure what is it?I know I have to be getting better because it is calmed down majorly....It is like the ring before was outside the brain and now it is moved inside....IDK if this makes any sense...but if it does and anyone can relate please let me know...I greatly appreciate it

Other thing is ear plugs bother my ears which is all the time but REALLY bad on my vestibular therapy days....Does anyone else have this problem?

What do you mean by ear plugs bother your ears? Are they uncomfortable to wear or is it a sound thing?

The ringing/tinnitus may be with you forever. Many of us live with tinnitus. There is no treatment for it besides learning to ignore it. It will be more noticeable in silent areas.

My left ear has been ringing like a bell and I just yawned and my right ear started ringing. But that is just how my life is, every day.

Ear plugs hurt my ears but headphones are the worst! I can't have even soft noise right in my ear. I don't like the pressure of headphones on my ears either.

My ears are hurting more right now since starting vestibular therapy but it makes sense because I know they're messing around with the inner ear.

Hopefully it goes away or at least returns to where it was before therapy started!

I'm a 39 year old, female, accountant. On July 2, 2012 I crashed my bike at the end of a 65KM road ride. I was fine that day but woke up the next morning to my current world.

Ongoing symptoms include: dizziness, blurred vision, light and noise sensitivities, cognitive problems, uncontrollable emotions/depression/anxiety, headaches (but they're getting better), mental and physical fatigue, difficulty communicating and sleep disturbances.

Currently seeing a fabulous Neuro Psychologist and vestibular physiotherapist and hoping to soon see a neuro ophthalmologist. I am currently doing 20 minute stationary bike rides daily, 20 minutes of meditating, 15 minutes of Lumosity and lots of resting. I have not been able to work or drive since the accident.

The things that have helped me the most since the accident are vestibular therapy, gel eye drops (for blurred vision, sensitivity and dryness), amitriptyline (10mg), and meditating. I am finally starting to see some slight improvements and am hopeful!

My brain WANTS to heal itself... I just have to let it and stop trying to get better!

Mia,

Have you tried different types of ear plugs? There are some that are very soft. The bell shaped ones that airlines give out are the softest I have found. They just don't block enough sound for me.

Here is a link that shows them. They are the pink ones in the top left.

You can also get ear plugs custom made to fit your ear at hearing aid stores. They cost $100 to $200 a pair. Musicians use them.

Here is a link to an assortment of sizes and styles.

No one can say how long you will have noise sensitivity. I think it helps to resolve the problem to give the audio processing part of the brain a chance to recover. I have far more tolerance now than I did initially.

Hope you find some relief.

My best to you.
