Default PCS and DOT Physical

Does anyone here know if you can pass a DOT physical while still experiencing symptoms of PCS?

AnnieD,

There is likely a questionaire that asks about recent concussion and concussion symptoms. I know these questions are on an FAA flight medical questionaire. Are there special doctors the DOT uses for these exams ? If so, you would want to ask this question of one of them if possible. There is likely an online source of information about these issues.

If this DOT exam is to drive a school bus, remember how chaos can cause a relapse/confusion. A bus is too great a risk for chaos right when there is a need to be on top of your game.

Please be very careful about considering driving as a commercial driver.

I did a quick google. Head/brain injury is the 2nd question in the medical history section. It will likely require a doctor's clearance. The insurance company may have even stricter standards.

My best to you.

Thanks Mark.
I am a heavy equipment operator, with a Class B CDL(road construction mostly). I seriously question whether or not I will ever be able to return to this type of work. My concussion was 10/12 with PCS symptoms ever since.

Do you have specific equipment you operate the most ? Do you stay of the public roads while operating this equipment ?

If I had a quiet environment ( no backup alarms and other disturbing sounds and no chaotic traffic near me ) I could do lots with such equipment. A track hoe or back hoe or motor grader would be great.

I have a 8 ton Case 450 track loader with backhoe that is my favorite way to be active outdoors at my mountain cabin. I am installing french drains and building a trout pond and clearing defensible space. I like trying to get an accurate grade. I would be far to slow for a job site.

The safety needs of a job site could be difficult. I never have others to worry about.

My best to you.
