Default Ruby Wax

After he own struggles Ruby Wax has started a parallel career in Mental Health. Like most entertainers she had a bought of depression but has gone on to study Berkley, London and Oxford she qualified in Psychotherapy and Neuroscience.

She has been on UK TV a lot recently promoting mental health and has launched a web site. She has a road show based on mental with Neurologists and psychologist participating. Haven't seen it myself but apparently it is quite good and has now left the UK for a tour to Australia. It may be worth seeing if it is going to the US and Canada.

One of the points she highlighted in a recent TV interview was the way employers treat people with mental problems. She has found that Employers are more prepared to give ex-cons another chance rather than those with mental health issues. Apparently, in the studies she has done, employers are worried that staff with mental problems will cause problems in the workplace and be unreliable and a high risk. Additionally the figures show a large number of staff with a declared problem are "managed" out of employment by their employers.

She comes across very well in the interviews and doesn't trivialise the subject at all. Well worth catching up on some of her stuff
