Recovery is not a sprint. It is a marathon.A marathon of effort to prevent relapses. Those who learn how to run this marathon do quite well. Some try other ways for a long time before they learn to run the marathon. The sooner you accept the need to run this recovery as a marathon, the sooner you will start to see lasting improvement.
I have not seen Mark say this in awhile.I put it out there for all the new people. When I first found out I had a concussion I took this saying and never forgot it.Thank you Mark

So true Mia. I find that as long as I stay within the boundaries of what I know I can do that I am ok. When I go out of these, I have major problems. I try to check the boundaries often to see if they have expanded any and they have very slowly. I am still extremely limited but have come from being fully bedridden to being able to dress and go out for a few hours a couple times a week. I am grateful for this. I am slowly becoming less housebound. Don't think I will ever make it back to work but will keep trying. At least now I am actually living life again even if it is limited. I have come far. I also am recovering from liver and kidney failure so I have come far. Was very close to dead.
Slow and sure wins the race. I am at turtle speed but keeping on keeping on. Brain

From time to time, we get some posts by people who were frequent poster in the past. They will often point out this marathon issue. They will comment how they kept pushing for recovery with no success. They finally gave up pushing and just settled in and focused on reducing stress and slowly they started to get better.
It is often better to hear it from these past participants who learned it the hard way.

Thanks for this post! I'm only a month into my concussion, but I am already trying my best to view it from a wider scope, insofar as that a bad day, or even series of bad days, is not the end of the world, or even an impediment to recovery - just a part of the brain rebooting. I've begun a symptom journal in order to keep track of my progress.
