Default Chronic 6 week migraine from PCS

I've had a chronic migraine for 6 weeks since being hit on the head on Feb 21st. I've been reading a lot about migraines in general and just wondering how it is connected to PCS? Is it just a chronic inflammation of the brain from impact?

I also asked my doctor if I could just be suffering from a normal migraine and he said that migraines don't usually last beyond 72 hours. Anyway after doing my own reading I've read about people who've had "migraine cycles" that can last for a month or more unconnected to PCS? There are many natural remedies for treating acute migraines as well such as feverfew and Hylands Migraine relief. I'm just wondering what the physological difference is between a chronic migraine from PCS and just a normal acute migraine sufferer and that if these natural remedies for acute migraines could help me as well?

Anyone here also suffer from a chronic migraine from PCS ? Thanks for your support.

blue,

Do you have migraines or are they just post concussion head aches ? I have head aches routinely. They ebb and flow.

You have not told us about your vitamins and supplements yet. Maybe we can help you if we knew what you are and aren't taking.

Hi Mate,

I am about 7 months PCS and suffered from chronic migranes and headaches up until aout 5 months. Now I get a dull headache pretty regularly, that sometimes turns into a migrane, but this is pretty managable compared to how debilitating they used to be. Anyway ICE helps alot, I also use a heat pack after a massage, etc.

I find that and literally just avoiding any stressfull situation or anything that stresses your brain, weather it be good or bad, will help. I am at the point now where these headaches are my only lasting symptom, and they are fast subsiding. Dont worry, the pain will get better, just REST you poor old brain

Anyone here also suffer from a chronic migraine from PCS ? Thanks for your support.

Hi,
Sorry you are suffering from this. I have never had a migraine last anywhere near that long. I get acute migraines. These are totally incapacitating. Complete debilitation. With acute migraines, it starts out with vision problems- wavy lines and then you get complete vision loss or partial vision loss. This is where your central or peripheral vision is black. All you see is black if you look directly at something or black on the sides of your vision. Then your head feels like it is cracking. You literally start moaning and squeezing between your nose and rubbing your forehead. Then you start violently throwing up. This is an acute migraine headache. They can last for up to 3 days but I have never had one last that long. Thank god. If you have a headache that you are able to see, think, talk, get up and function, this is not a migraine headache. It is possible you could have a bad headache that is lasting months due to PCS. Not acute migraine. If you can type and read this. Not migraine. What you can do is to put a cold washcloth on your forehead. The colder the better or behind your head. Depending on where the pain is coming from. It helps me to put one over my eyes with ice on it. Also wearing sunglasses helps to cut down on the number of headaches and the intensity. I have to wear sunglasses all the time now. And ear plugs. Our hearing is very sensitive now. Especially when we have headaches. Good luck. Hope your headaches clear up soon. I know they are miserable.

I hit my head for the first time a little over 4 years ago and have had a headache 24/7 since that time. For months after each time I hit my head (I have hit it at least 4 times seriously since the original concussion) I had intense migraine symptoms which after about 4-6 months dissipate into a dull constant headache which flares at the slightest prompting. My neurologist said that medicine does not know why, but if you have a relative, even a distant one, who has migraines, it often happens that when you get a bad enough concussion, especially if you black out, the migraine gene which might have remained silent all of your life decides that it wants to attack. And then because you are suffering from the pain of the injury for a little while at first, the migraine realizes that it can be active all the time. He said that this has happened often enough that doctors are no longer surprised when it does happen, but they cannot explain it. So, my PCS has turned into a migraine, which I must say is a heck of a lot easier to explain to people and it is much easier for people to believe that I have a migraine than that I have PCS for 4 years.
Good Luck All!
Live Long and Prosper!
In Christ,
Margarite

Since the first concussion I have continually knocked my head into different things purely by accident or from being stupid. These many concussions over a short period of time have caused
constant migraines, nausea, and dizziness/lack of balance.
Migraine triggers are:
light sensitivity (especially to florescent or bright lights)
sound sensitivity (especially to high pitched or loud sounds)
temperature sensitivity (especially to cold or extreme heat)
activity (especially if breathing increases or head is jostled)
pressure on head (sinuses, hats, headbands, sunglasses, pony-tails)
lacks or quality (food, sleep, water)
tension (stress, tight muscles, tired eyes, sickness)
