Default Research on Enzogenol supplement promising

Just came across this research on an extract from bark of a certain tree....thought to enhance memory in MTBI. Anti-oxidant properties.

Seems like it is worth a try. Has anyone tried it yet?

I have seen it bundled with other things but not alone. Maybe it is by presciption here in Canada or the USA?

Not sure if I should have posted this in the supplements tab. I am sure someone will advise me!

What happened: Legs pulled forward by a parent's hockey stick while resting at the side of the rink at a family skate....sent me straight back. I hit the back of my head (with helmet) on the ice, bounced a few times, unconscious for a few minutes. September 11, 2011. Off work since then…I work part-time at home when I can. It has been hell but slowly feeling better (when I am alone☺).

Current symptoms: Vision problems (but 20/20 in each eye alone!) – convergence insufficiency – horizontal and vertical (heterophoria), problems with tracking and saccades, peripheral vision problems, eyes see different colour tints; tinnitus 24/7 both ears; hyperacusis (noise filter gone!), labyrinthian (inner ear) concussion, vestibular dysfunction (dizzy, bedspins, need to look down when walking); partial loss of sense of smell; electric shocks through head when doing too much; headaches; emotional lability; memory blanks; difficulty concentrating. I still can’t go into busy, noisy places. Fatigue. Executive functioning was affected – multi-tasking, planning, motivation. Slight aphasia. Shooting pain up neck and limited mobility at neck. Otherwise lucky!

Current treatments: Vestibular therapy, Vision therapy, amantadine (100 mg a day), acupuncture and physiotherapy for neck, slow return to exercise, magnesium, resveratrol, omega 3 fish oils, vitamins D, B and multi. Optimism and perserverance.

Interesting study. I see some problems with it though.

The grading was done by self-reporting of cognitive failures. This is a huge monkey wrench in the results making this study very week. Plus, the small cohort (60 people) is a weakness.

What this study says is that a much larger and complex study would be worthwhile. Nuero Cognitive testing to reduce the self-reporting weakness would be great.

It is KILLER expensive. It is $0.50 per capsule of 60 mgs of Enzogenol. The study was with 1000 mgs per day. That would be 16 capsules at a daily cost of $8.00. No wonder they sell if by the case at $29.50 per bottle of 60 capsules.

I just bought some. am desperate after 5 years and willing to try anything taking this plus a million vitamin supplements for 3 weeks and ahve't seen any improvement yet. I don't kow if I am wasting money though because cognitive problems aren't my biggest weakness, it's the sensory problesm that oare the worst, like feeling of swelling in head and spine, diahrea, impotence, brain fog, itching of scalp, niht terrors, etc.

If you didn't buy directly from the manufacturers you are wasting your time. I called them and they apparently started putting out their own finished product as they guarantee the amount of enzogenol in the capsules. *edit*
