Default Is Head Sensitivity to Motion unusual for PCS?

Hello All-

First Posting. I had a concussion 1.5 years ago (long story), and still have many problems. One of the remaining problems is head sensitivity to motion. I feel pain or increased concussion symptoms, from walking, riding or driving in a car (bumps, turns), other movements etc. At this point I know that it is not a visual problem. I had my neck investigated pretty thoroughly, and that that is loosened up, not causing the problem. I think the head sensitivity is a typical symptom for concussion at first, but mine has not improved. Just wondering if this head motion sensitivity could be something other than PCS? I appreciate any comments.

Jim,

Welcome to NeuroTalk. Head sensitivity to light bumps or movement is not uncommon. I have lived with this symptom for decades. I doubt it has any other cause. I have learned many behavioral modifications. I never shake my head, not even to signify No. I am careful when driving or riding on a rough road. I am more purposeful with my movements.

If you have any specific movements that cause you problems, post here an I will offer my personal solution.

Please feel free to tell us about your other problems. Don't worry about telling a long story. Just use double paragraph spaces every five lines for those of us with visual scanning struggles.

My best to you.

I have similar issues. I have been told it is the damage to the vestibuar system. You may want to get that assessed so you can begin some retraining therapies, if needed.
Good luck!

What happened: Legs pulled forward by a parent's hockey stick while resting at the side of the rink at a family skate....sent me straight back. I hit the back of my head (with helmet) on the ice, bounced a few times, unconscious for a few minutes. September 11, 2011. Off work since then…I work part-time at home when I can. It has been hell but slowly feeling better (when I am alone☺).

Current symptoms: Vision problems (but 20/20 in each eye alone!) – convergence insufficiency – horizontal and vertical (heterophoria), problems with tracking and saccades, peripheral vision problems, eyes see different colour tints; tinnitus 24/7 both ears; hyperacusis (noise filter gone!), labyrinthian (inner ear) concussion, vestibular dysfunction (dizzy, bedspins, need to look down when walking); partial loss of sense of smell; electric shocks through head when doing too much; headaches; emotional lability; memory blanks; difficulty concentrating. I still can’t go into busy, noisy places. Fatigue. Executive functioning was affected – multi-tasking, planning, motivation. Slight aphasia. Shooting pain up neck and limited mobility at neck. Otherwise lucky!

Current treatments: Vestibular therapy, Vision therapy, amantadine (100 mg a day), acupuncture and physiotherapy for neck, slow return to exercise, magnesium, resveratrol, omega 3 fish oils, vitamins D, B and multi. Optimism and perserverance.
