Default Need help explaining my PCS.

I had a discussion with my friend today regarding a concert we are suppose to attend, as we always do every year. I told her a couple times already, well in advance, that I can not go. I explained to her my current relapse which caused me to quit my job.

She seems to believe that I will miraculously be better/cured in 2 months and that I will be able to tolerate loud music, flashy lights and drunk people screaming all around me. Then she compared me to a NHL player and his multiple concussions. Basically, if he can still play, I should be able to attend the concert. I gave her examples of not being able to drive and listen to music at the same time, wearing sunglasses even on cloudy days, how loud music and clanking of weights in a gym was enough to trigger symptoms. What can I say to her that will actually ring a bell for her and she will "get it" and find someone else to go with. I told her I may be better then, however, it does not mean I can be in that type of environment and I have no desire to compromise the recovery process.

Thank you for your responses.

Default Show her some posts here

I guess I would invite my friend to see some of the posts here. People are pretty good at describing their problems.

Or how about seeing if she will watch that series, You Look Great, Inside a TBI -- it's on YouTube in about 6 parts. There is a link to it on one of the stickies. It's really good.

So glad you are realizing what you probably can't do -- so you don't relapse. I am going through that too and it's hard for me to admit -- I am not ready to go see a play.

I hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Poetrymom

[SIZE="1"]What happened. I was in a car accident 2-23-2013, and got a mild concussion from it. I had some time off for brain rest, got somewhat better, but slipped into PCS in March 2013.

Symptoms I had: dizziness, light and sound sensitivity, fatigue, tinitis, occasional headaches and migraines,

Symptoms as of 5--2013: poor sleep, tinitis, some confusion /short term memory blanks, balance. The other symptoms are mostly gone, but flare up if I OVERdo something.

Therapy I had: vestibular

3 months in: I could drive more and for longer distances. I felt like a younger, happier version of myself and I feel so blessed to have this feeling.

9 months in and I am working full time. I do get tired, and some sound and light sensitivity from time to time, but mostly I am over most of my symptoms.
I pray every day and I m praying for your recovery.

Over a year in: I can multi task (limited) and have humor in my life. But when I am tired, I am very tired.

Aldora, check out the Vitamins sticky at the top. At the bottom of the first post are links to the You Tube and other online explanations.

If you need a medical explanation to overwhelm her with, I can get very medical science oriented for you to print out and have her read.
