I refer to Institutes because they seem to have more readily available appointment schedules than other settings for the most part when times are tight for referrals.

Sorry, no idea of the specialty clinic backlog appointment dates ......I know its a tedious process.

If necessary, and I know your doc had your best interests in mind, starting the Seroquel on her advice isn't a bad start since it has been used for sleep - the only problem is like all those meds, including Amitriptylline and Nortriptylline, it can take time for the full effect to build up.

Its just that once you start, withdrawal from anti-psychotics take time too, you just shouldn't stop cold turkey, after long term use.

I hope this is helpful.

Get your rest, try your best, my best wishes for you.

I have to go rest myself, had a bit of running around to a few appointments myself today, nearing time for meds too.

I'm surprised your PCP did not refer you to a neurologist for follow up. A contusion that shows up past 3 days should be taken very seriously. Research shows that minor bleeds are usually absorbed soon after 72 hours. If your contusion was visible at a later time, it was more than a minor contusion.

Medication update: Topamax 200mg twice daily it seems to minimize daily headaches to a 1-2/10 quality(I still know they are there); and acute headaches erupt without warnings.

Default Saw a Neurologist - Depacon IV

Called Neurologist who was recommended to me and he had an opening this morning so I rushed out the door.

Diagnosis - Status Migrainosus post TBI also caused by pressure while flying. Had the ER told me not to fly this might not have been so bad.

Treatment - I go back the afternoon to get an IV and will administer Depacon 100 mg intravenously for the next few days. They will do my initial dose in the office under supervision and the others I will administer myself at home via IV.

They have assigned me a Home Healthcare Nurse. But I am an EMT and have the Flight Attendant training that I can administer my own with no problem. I will stay with my Parents tonight and my mom insisted my dad stay with me tomorrow. Even when you grow up - you never really grow up to them

I understand this is a FDA Black Box Drug. I am also a Paralegal and work (contract) for a Pharmaceutical Litigation Firm so I understand what this means. The Dr said I had about a 73% chance of improvement. I am hopeful. He also believes is will help with all the other symptoms and lack of sleep.

Say a lil prayer for me and Ill update you all as to how it is going.

I hope it helps. I find it interesting that many drugs list the same side-effect that the drug is being used to treat. So, you are good at doing an IV injection on yourself ? That takes nerves unless one has an addiction to the drug. I expect that you do not. Some people just have a gift for doing good vein pokes. My daughter has that gift as an Army Combat Medic.

Hi, I'm back, sorry I had a little break, needed little time out with my own Headache meds.

Glad you got to see a Neurologist.

Depacon is an Antiseizure med..........be sure to have the Home Health Nurse help you out, don't take it all on yourself.

Don't know if you kept the CrazyMed link but here is Depacon... for info.

I have heard of many Neurologists using it for Status Migrainus... Good luck with it.

Hopefully you will begin a good path of recovery then..........

Best Wishes.............

I've been on Narco for headache, Soma for head tension and Phenergan for nausea/vomiting. My dr just prescribed Seroquel for sleep. Has anyone tried these meds? I took the Narco, Soma and Phenergan for a couple weeks but stopped because of how druggy I felt and tried Advil only which only tore my IBS stomach up even more. I wanted to see what symptoms were from the injury and what were caused by the meds. What treatments have been successful for y'all? What recommendations do yall have? Seroquel is most commonly used to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, its very strong medicine and that makes me very nervous. I've read that psycho-meds are sometimes prescribed to treat PCS. Any tips or advice are welcomed.
I had my concussion 3 yrs ago. The side efeects have been horrible. To complicate matters I have been suffering from bi-polar/PTSD, and then throw in a hysterectomy last year. I take a different drug. I take Seroquel myself. I have not had any problems with it. My husband is usually a very understanding and caring man, but since the hysterectomy he has been very hard on me. When I found this web site I almost feel off my chair. Finally someone who understands. This may be a little forward but would you consider chatting on yahoo if you have an acct.
