A common therapy is called Hyper Baric Oxygen Therapy. It is a protocol where the patient is put in a plexiglass tube. The barometric pressure is increased, often to 1.5 atmospheres and the patient breaths higher concentrations of oxygen.
The goal is to push more oxygen into the cells. It helps with wound healing. It helps with comatose patients. It has been suggested for concussions but the research is weak. It takes 60 to 80 sessions at $150 to $200 per session to show minor improvements.

This might be off the deep end but can you just get some oxygen and do at home therapies?I think the oxygen when I was in hospital Friday helped me a little with impairments. Is this possible?Or am I just out of my mind all together? The treatment you suggested is ridiculous! You need to have bick bucks for that lol!

Unless you have a chronic pulmonary problem, simple oxygen therapy will be off little use. A simple way to check this out is to spend $30 to $50 for a PulseOx meter/monitor to check your O2 saturation levels. I have considered this same therapy and found it is only helpful if you have a low O2 sat level.

Hi Mia
I would be really careful with just getting oxygen to use at home. I read Marks post about how it is supposed to work, and I really don't get it. But I would caution against experimenting with it at home. Just seems dangerous. take care pm

[SIZE="1"]What happened. I was in a car accident 2-23-2013, and got a mild concussion from it. I had some time off for brain rest, got somewhat better, but slipped into PCS in March 2013. Symptoms I had: dizziness, light and sound sensitivity, fatigue, tinitis, occasional headaches and migraines, Symptoms as of 5--2013: poor sleep, tinitis, some confusion /short term memory blanks, balance. The other symptoms are mostly gone, but flare up if I OVERdo something. Therapy I had: vestibular 3 months in: I could drive more and for longer distances. I felt like a younger, happier version of myself and I feel so blessed to have this feeling. 9 months in and I am working full time. I do get tired, and some sound and light sensitivity from time to time, but mostly I am over most of my symptoms. I pray every day and I m praying for your recovery. Over a year in: I can multi task (limited) and have humor in my life. But when I am tired, I am very tired. |

My sister did some research on this procedure for fibro myalgia. They apparently have had some amazing improvements with just a few session. My cousin had a couple of session after surgery and it was amazing how it healed her wound site . I have heard nothing about it with concussions but I will ask around.

My Pulmonary Physician told me that there was little or no risk breathing constant flow oxygen at levels higher than needed.
I use a CPAP (Constant Pressure Air Pump) at night for Sleep Apnea, and for a while I was using oxygen at levels twice as high as actually needed, due to allergies and misunderstandings. I suffered no ill effects, and i did that for about 6 months. My "normal" blood oxygen levels are around 98% tho, so that is rather unusual. People with lower norms might find some relief in raising them for a period of time, with medical supervision, of course. Best Wishes StormE1
