Hi everyone. I am a long time sufferer of anxiety/panic attacks and I am just over two months into PCS recovery. Can my extreme anxiety/panic be delaying my hopeful recovery? I am debating going on an SSRI. Any insight?

my opinion is yes as your brain needs a strees free environment to heal and in my case stress delayed my healing. instead of SSRI's you can try supplements. Right now i'm on Ltyptophan and l-theanine which has helped me. I'm also on supplements for sleep.
What are you PCS symptoms? |

Hello and welcome here,
I've been taking Gabba, L-theanine and 5-htp for 3.5 years -- but I've had PCS for 4 months. I didn't get a lot of anxiety from it and it could be due to the supplements I mentioned. (I take these at night) You may need something stronger though. Let us know more about your symptoms. Sincerely, pm

[SIZE="1"]What happened. I was in a car accident 2-23-2013, and got a mild concussion from it. I had some time off for brain rest, got somewhat better, but slipped into PCS in March 2013. Symptoms I had: dizziness, light and sound sensitivity, fatigue, tinitis, occasional headaches and migraines, Symptoms as of 5--2013: poor sleep, tinitis, some confusion /short term memory blanks, balance. The other symptoms are mostly gone, but flare up if I OVERdo something. Therapy I had: vestibular 3 months in: I could drive more and for longer distances. I felt like a younger, happier version of myself and I feel so blessed to have this feeling. 9 months in and I am working full time. I do get tired, and some sound and light sensitivity from time to time, but mostly I am over most of my symptoms. I pray every day and I m praying for your recovery. Over a year in: I can multi task (limited) and have humor in my life. But when I am tired, I am very tired. |

I will have to take a look at those supplements, thank you. My PCS symptoms are constant lightheadness/dizziness and constant spacey/brain fog (not feel myself, almost like I'm in a dream, it's hard to describe). I just generally feel different and not in tune with myself. I also suffer from left sided headaches. I just really can't stand the dreamy like state, it's scary and very weird. I also have developed popping / crackling in my left ear when I swallow.

I would say without doubt yes. The psycological aspects of PCS exacerbate the physiological symptoms.
Take it from me, I am 8months on and working, exercising and leading a full life again. For me the SNRI Cymbalta was the medication to turn both my pain and my symptoms around at the lowest dose of 30mg.

PCS following head injury November 2012. Experienced dizzyness, light and noise sensitivity, hypercusis, fatigue, insomnia, migraines, facial pain, problems concentrating, irritability, sensory overload, exercise intolerance. Symptoms mostly resolved, working full time and I am now mostly better. I wake 6am daily since my injury. Was experiencing daily Neuralgia which was controlled with Cymbalta 30mg, Lyrica 200mg daily. Now only on 30mg Cymbalta. |
