So many people are suggesting I do a detox cleanse that consists of five days of drinking a special lemonade drink and then a modified diet plus supplements. What do u think? Thank you!

I don't know............. can you eat on these cleanses? I mean, other food than a lemonade drink and supplements?
For me, that lemonade cleanse would be a horrible idea, but that's just me. I know I need to eat bread, some meat, salads, fruit, and take the supplements I take. You're also working, right? Not sure how you'd have the energy for work too if you are cleansing. Just thinking about that lemonade gave me heartburn. I think you can find other ways to cleanse that are not so....long or drastic. There's my 3 cents pm

[SIZE="1"]What happened. I was in a car accident 2-23-2013, and got a mild concussion from it. I had some time off for brain rest, got somewhat better, but slipped into PCS in March 2013. Symptoms I had: dizziness, light and sound sensitivity, fatigue, tinitis, occasional headaches and migraines, Symptoms as of 5--2013: poor sleep, tinitis, some confusion /short term memory blanks, balance. The other symptoms are mostly gone, but flare up if I OVERdo something. Therapy I had: vestibular 3 months in: I could drive more and for longer distances. I felt like a younger, happier version of myself and I feel so blessed to have this feeling. 9 months in and I am working full time. I do get tired, and some sound and light sensitivity from time to time, but mostly I am over most of my symptoms. I pray every day and I m praying for your recovery. Over a year in: I can multi task (limited) and have humor in my life. But when I am tired, I am very tired. |

Your brain needs lots of energy to function. It needs EXTRA energy with PCS. Healing takes energy, which takes calories, which requires healthy foods. The new neuro path ways formed after injury/healing are not as efficient, and so still require more energy/glucose than normal.
I'd strongly suggest against such a cleanse. I think a cleanse with lots of whole veggie and fruit juices, some lean proteins and carbs would be good. I find I can't go more than 2-3 hours with out eating - and a veg/fruit juice (not with sugar, but a whole, fresh juice) really helps. Good luck! |

Heatherrr, you nailed it!!
Earlier in my recovery I remember being hungry every 2-3 hours and I would need a snack like yougert, fruit, crackers, or nuts, but something!! Yes, our healing brains need good calories to heal. Yay! pm

Those suggesting this have probably not done any research of nutrition requirements for TBI/PCS patients. If such studies exist please post. http://www.brainline.org/content/201...-recovery.html

What Happened: On November 29, 2010, I was walking across the street and was hit by a light rail commuter train. Result was a severe traumatic brain injury and multiple fractures (skull, pelvis, ribs). Total hospital stay was two months, one in ICU followed by an additional month in neuro-rehab. Upon hospital discharge, neurological testing revealed deficits in short term memory, executive functioning, and spatial recognition. Today: Neuropsychological examination five months post-accident indicated a return to normal cognitive functioning, and I returned to work approximately 6 months after the accident. I am grateful to be alive and am looking forward to enjoying the rest of my life. Last edited by Lightrail11; 06-27-2013 at 11:17 AM. |

Hello,
A cleanse can be pretty intense, plus you need all the energy you can get. Sometimes after taking a medication that made me sick and I wanted to get it out quickly, I would drink this tea. Or just to speed up the liver's process/ detoxify. http://www.everydayvitamin.com/tradi...Fep7QgodrCoAPg It is meant to be daily so it is not too strong, but the taste is not wonderful, just ok.I found it at my local health food store. |
