There are injuries to the brain that can cause symptoms such as you describe that won't show up on MRIs or other standard imaging tools; diffuse axonal injury is a common example.

Regarding your wife's observation, those that are near us are in a better position to notice improvements before we are. When I was just home from the hospital I didn't recognize a lot of my deficits. My wife was able to observe them and was also able to tell when they were improving long before I was.

As I recall your injury was sustained about five months ago? While this probably seems to you like an eternity, in the TBI/PCS world this is relatively recent. The fact that your wife is seeing the difference shows that healing is taking place.

I don’t remember from your prior posts; have you have had a neuropsychological assessment from a clinical neuropsychologist? This can give you an objective measure of where you are in your recovery and can help design specific therapies.

What Happened: On November 29, 2010, I was walking across the street and was hit by a light rail commuter train. Result was a severe traumatic brain injury and multiple fractures (skull, pelvis, ribs). Total hospital stay was two months, one in ICU followed by an additional month in neuro-rehab. Upon hospital discharge, neurological testing revealed deficits in short term memory, executive functioning, and spatial recognition.

Today: Neuropsychological examination five months post-accident indicated a return to normal cognitive functioning, and I returned to work approximately 6 months after the accident. I am grateful to be alive and am looking forward to enjoying the rest of my life.

Thanks for u response and support, god only knows I need it...my counselor at the rehab clinic I am attending is scheduling me in to see a neuropsychologist for testing, don't have the date yet.

These are my schedules, exams and doctors I have seen since my head injury in March:

1. GP - CT scan done in April, normal.
2. Neurologist - Physical exam - normal, MRI done in May, normal.
3. Nuerosurgen seen in July, memory test - normal, reaction test - normal, balance test - normal. Reassures I will be back to my old self???
4. ENT seen in July, balance test - normal, Vertigo exam - negative.
5. EEG test scheduled for October 22nd, through neurologist.
6. Chiropractor for cervical neck, message therapy, physio therapy.
7. Neuro Rehab clinic, Occupational therapy, physio therapy and counseling.
8. GP - counseling.
9. Work half days.

What else can I do?? I trying to get the help...but I'm not well and this condition has rotten me to the core. I fear for my families future of me being able to take care of them??

Your recovery plan looks a lot like mine did; specifically I was also in neuro-rehab (both in and outpatient) receiving occupational, physical and speech therapy. Like you I also worked half days for a couple of months before I was ready to resume work full time.

Regarding what else you can do, as I mentioned to you before, I believe that maintaining a positive outlook is important to recovery. I had a lot of the same emotional thoughts as you, fear of the future included. Talk about those fears to the therapists and counselors you are seeing in the rehab clinic. If your rehab counseling center has group sessions talk about your anxiety and fears there. If not, join a TBI support group.

There are positive things going on. You are already back working half days. Your wife is noticing changes. People recover. The night of my accident my neurosurgeon didn’t think I was going to make it. I did. In the hospital I didn’t know the answer to a flashcard that showed “7 + 4 =?”. All that got better. Back to work over two years now and enjoying life.

Glad they are scheduling the neuropsychologist exam. Wishing you continued progress.

Default hang in there!

Ed, better days are to come.

One meditation thought I try to process is this. "I am enough."

Wishing you peace.

[SIZE="1"]What happened. I was in a car accident 2-23-2013, and got a mild concussion from it. I had some time off for brain rest, got somewhat better, but slipped into PCS in March 2013.

Symptoms I had: dizziness, light and sound sensitivity, fatigue, tinitis, occasional headaches and migraines,

Symptoms as of 5--2013: poor sleep, tinitis, some confusion /short term memory blanks, balance. The other symptoms are mostly gone, but flare up if I OVERdo something.

Therapy I had: vestibular

3 months in: I could drive more and for longer distances. I felt like a younger, happier version of myself and I feel so blessed to have this feeling.

9 months in and I am working full time. I do get tired, and some sound and light sensitivity from time to time, but mostly I am over most of my symptoms.
I pray every day and I m praying for your recovery.

Over a year in: I can multi task (limited) and have humor in my life. But when I am tired, I am very tired.
