Default Crosby recovery

In a recent interview with Peter Mansbridge of the CBC, Sidney Crosby described not having any recurring concussion symptoms at all. He also took a few big hits and a puck to the jaw and not received any concussion symptoms. Is he back to the old Sid or is he still extremely vulnerable to future PCS?

If I could speak with Sid, I would encourage him to retire from playing... I would not wish upon anybody what concussion has done to my life. World championship, Stanley Cup and Olympic gold! Most hockey careers are not so successful and his career has been most successful. He may be symptom free now, but another knock on the noggin could leave him with more persistent symptoms. Why risk your well-being and family life? Why push your luck?

That's my thinking on the subject...

Everyone is vulnerable, and my feeling is, he is more vulnerable than most. He's also young, and a big part of his identity is wrapped up in being a star hockey player. So losing that piece of himself would probably be worse in his mind, than sustaining another concussion.

I take anything he says with a grain of salt.

What about lesser stars like Patrice Bergeron or Nathan Horton? Both guys battled concussions for 10+ months and "came back".

But deep down, I also suspect that another concussion for Sid could be very bad.

I saw the interview. He is still an active player, so I highly doubt he would admit to having recurring symptoms. He was likely advised before the interview not to say anything. I highly doubt after being out for over a year he doesn't have any lingering symptoms. Especially when he's pushing his body that hard in training and playing hockey, day in a day out.

I would also advise him to retire...I know he never would....but if you dont have your health, what do you have?
