~My neuro told me to try and if I fail than we will take it from there~I am only doing one class and have ADA help. If anyone can help suggest work arounds while trying to do this I greatly appreciate it. ![]()

I think it's great that you are trying! It is the only way to know if you have a limit, and if you encounter it, I trust you can get help from your ADA at the university.
Some of my students did the following: 1. Record the lectures 2. Had note takers (other students or a representative) 3. Would ask me to review their summaries of key points from lectures 4. For exams, had extra time to take exams 5. Did oral vs. written exams (or vice-versa) 6. Would correct exam mistakes for extra credit 7. For papers, would get extra coaching regarding thesis development 8. For papers, would work with editors / writing counselors 9. Would do papers instead of exams Best of luck!

I am back in college and this is my cognitive therapy for the time and probably will be....to hell with waiting around! I have to take breaks often, only wear glasses on computer, try to keep up on time management, keep up with all my research and references.
As of write now I cannot say I am learning the materials I am now a C average student, but I am learning everything in writing structures, APA format etc. I noticed that as I continue doing repeat things the easier it is getting....now if I could remember more of the materials!!! lol ![]()

You will likely find that it takes many repetitions before information becomes stored in memory. It will help if you can make these study/memorization efforts multi-sensory. This means when you are reading to remember, read out loud. This allows the brain to take in the information with visual and auditory memory channels. Adding tactile by typing or writing notes of the information will add motor/tactile memory like information processing.

I think it's great that you are challenging yourself and your brain!
I heard from a friend who was in med school that if you read your notes while on an exercise bike or walk slowly on treadmill this helps the memory record information. She told me the mechanics (which I have now forgotten), but it has to do with large muscle groups working together with the memory center of the brain records information more strongly.

[SIZE="1"]What happened. I was in a car accident 2-23-2013, and got a mild concussion from it. I had some time off for brain rest, got somewhat better, but slipped into PCS in March 2013. Symptoms I had: dizziness, light and sound sensitivity, fatigue, tinitis, occasional headaches and migraines, Symptoms as of 5--2013: poor sleep, tinitis, some confusion /short term memory blanks, balance. The other symptoms are mostly gone, but flare up if I OVERdo something. Therapy I had: vestibular 3 months in: I could drive more and for longer distances. I felt like a younger, happier version of myself and I feel so blessed to have this feeling. 9 months in and I am working full time. I do get tired, and some sound and light sensitivity from time to time, but mostly I am over most of my symptoms. I pray every day and I m praying for your recovery. Over a year in: I can multi task (limited) and have humor in my life. But when I am tired, I am very tired. |
