I have two questions:
I was in a bad car accident in November last year where I was rear ended they say at about 60 at a full stop and then pushed forward into the bus in front of us. I got double whiplash and extreme jaw pain and a concussion. I thought I had a ear ache as I cant open my jaw fully anymore and am in severe pain when i chew. Question 1…Does anyone else have this?… My other concern… I got an MRI because of all the dizziness etc. I requested the paper as I was told by my physic that i have TMJ from the accident. I was hoping the MRI would show but it seems other things showed up? I read: There is a 5 mm area of faint T2 hyperintensity in the centrum semiovale on the right side. Signal void is seen from carotid and vertebral vessels. Signal void is also seen fom mastoid air cells and paranasal sinuses. A few small perivascula spaces are seen aound the anterior commissure bilaterally and symmetrically. There is a faint rounded area of T2 hyperintensity in the centrum semiovale. |

sharena,
Welcome to NeuroTalk. Your MRI report is too technical for most of us. Maybe Canadoc will see your post and can respond. Have you had any physical therapy for your TMJ ? I had a badly locked up TMJ and my PT did an 'in the mouth' pressure point/myofacial release. It really helped. I also did slow manual stretches to get my mouth open. I went from just one finger width to 2 1/2 finger's width over time. My best to you.

I had similar scenario but hit from side at 75mph. I had the same symptoms. The water feeling in ear is most likely your vestibular is off from hit. Are you dizzy, vertigo, walking into things, feels like your balance is off? I did vestibular therapy for 6month's and the watery ears improved. The vestibular is in your inner ear. The vestibular is for balancing your head/body.
The jaw is because of your neck (whiplash) most likely. I could not talk for a year my jaw went dislocated after 9month's with concussion and a extensive dental work and because of grinding/clenching. I did community acupuncture in jaw (TMJ)for 9month's and after 2 month's I had great improvement. I got a mouth splint from jaw MD $30 to sleep in for grinding & clenching from stress/anxiety while sleeping or anytime I felt myself clench. I am not a doctor but I have been in this situation & I do have some medical schooling behind me. If you have any other questions feel free to PM me. Quote:

I had the same jaw/ear thing going on too. Developed about a month after the incident and lasted about a month as well. Only thing that ever relieved it was a self massage and breathing in steam (just stayed in the hot shower without fan on for a loooong time) finally one morning my ear started leaking fluid and a few days later it was gone! Not sure if I shouldve looked into it farther but its gone, so im content.
