Well I've definitely taken steps back this week. I feel like I've got worse. The constant head pressure is driving me mad! Went to see my go again who gave me a leaflet on concussion thank god I found this forum. Feel a bit at a loose end because I don't know what else I can be doing to help. I guess my anxiety is probably making the whole thing worse.

Couldn't agree more.
I'd suggest going to see a psychologist to or therapist or at least a family member / friend to talk about your anxiety. I wish I did this sooner. My extremely large ego did not want to admit that I had an anxiety issue. I've also always been a very mentally tough person. Unfortunately an injured brain doesn't care about your ego or how tough you are and the anxiety will come. The first thing you need to do is accept that anxiety is there and that it's ok to have it. I think some CBT work with a professional could help wonders here. I know it did for me. It can't hurt .. that's for sure. |

Since my last post I have been prescribed amitriptyline which is really helping with the headaches. I feel my noise sensitivity has decreased also. I am still having bad days if I do too much. I feel a lot less frustrated now as I'm accepting this is going to take time. The doctors in the uk don't seem to know a lot about pcs! I've been thinking about having some physio therapy as maybe I have for tension in my neck. Is this a good idea?

Tension in the neck is usually due to an undiagnosed subtle neck injury. The shock to the head also impacts the neck, specifically the upper neck, C-1 and C-2. Gentle physiotherapy would be good. No pushing for range of motion. Just gentle movement and mobilizations with some gentle traction. You also need to be very cautious and disciplined to take care of your neck. This means good neck posture, especially when resting or sleeping. No thick pillows.
A neck injury can take many months of disciplined behavior to heal. My best to you.

Anxiety, and ruminating on negative things, ("my anxiety makes things worse"), is unfortunately a cognitive/emotional symptom of this crazy thing we live with.
Believe me, we all have and still go through times where we feel like we are at wits end and are unsure what to do next or what to try. That being said, there is hope. The more you experience what makes you get worse, (for me- too much screen time), the more your brain and spirit learn, (for me- Hey! turn the computer off now or you're going to be in bed for the next two days!). Once you get comfortable with what makes you feel better and what makes you feel worse, you can make choices. For me- Choices: (1) If I stay on the computer longer, I may start to feel sick, but I really miss seeing my friends and family. My mom just emailed me, so I will read it and reply because potentially feeling sick will be worth it to me because I will have connected with her; Or,(2) I'm just going to write a quick reply; Or (3) I will respond tomorrow because I need to feel good for something I have going on tonight. Ps. Sorry your doc doesn't get it, but we will ALWAYS be here for you

What Happened: On 3/8/11 I was stopped waiting to merge into traffic when I was rear ended by someone doing 45 mph. I walked away from the accident, to fall into the pit of PCS 5 days later... (I have had 2 previous concussions, but neither developed into PCS.) Symptoms 3 Years Post: Physical: migraines, infrequent vertigo, neck and back pain (from accident), tinnitus, visual field deficits in left eye, problematic light sensitivity, (including visual seizure activity), noise sensitivity, EXTREME fatigue, semi-frequent disrupted sleep cycles, Cognitive: semi-frequent Brain fog after cognitive strain, limited bouts of impulsivity, unable to concentrate for more than short periods of time without fatigue, word finding problems, slowed processing speeds, impaired visual memory; Emotional: easily overstimulated, depression, anxiety; Treatment so far: Vestibular therapy; Physical Therapy; Vision Therapy; Vitamin Schedule; Limited caffeine; Medications; attempting to limit stress and overstimulation; Yoga; Cognitive Therapy |

I find walking helps for anxiety, relaxes the mind and is good for brain blood flow. Like Hockey says anxiety is a concussion symptom as can be depression. Have something to look forward to like a treat to stay optimistic Recovery doesn't tend to be linear, you will get setbacks, don't be hard on yourself it's still early days the brain certainly takes time to heal. But I sympathise with you regarding UK GP's mine just printed out a leaflet and gave it me.

My neck was really crunchy and stiff for a long while, it's pretty much ok now, I think it's a PCS symptom. I went to see a chiropractor a few times but it didn't really help although the chiropractor seemed to know more than my GP about PCS lol. How long did it take for the amitryptaline to work? It's an anti depressant but in low doses, 10-20mg, used for sleep.
