Default Anyone experienced these symptoms?

Hello,

Have posted before about the severe concussion I had over a year ago, had lot's of cognitive problems and still do. Had what the ER doctor thought were 2 seizures back in December..

Has anyone experienced any of these things going on?....

I can be driving along and absolutely swear I see the traffic light is red so stop, only to look up at it again and it's green, my mind seems disorientated and fuzzy, like in some sort of trance.

I get so disorientated, can walk from my car in to a store and look back and not realize how I got in to the store, it feels like a dream, the store lights also make my mind fuzzy, just awful.

Someone can pass me something, eg: a large piece of paper ( it was a receipt a receptionist gave to me) she spoke to me for a few mins then I asked her for a receipt, there it was in my hands and I didn't remember, this kind of thing happens all the time.

Have changed Dr's and am hoping this one will send a referral to a neurologist.

Anyone have these symptoms?

I feel so different since the accident.

These symptoms usually relate to short term and immediate memory dysfunctions. They also may be due to a high distractability. When the brain is highly distractible, it does not finish 'recording' the memory because it jumped to something different.

A neuro may do a basic memory test (MMSE, Mini Mental Status Exam) to see how your memory is functioning. A NeuroPsychological Assessment done by a Neuro Psychologist would be more in depth. Your new GP/PCP can also do an MMSE to determine if you should be seen by a neuro.

Start a journal where you can record the event and surrounding conditions when you have these struggles. It may help you see a pattern. I am concerned about your driving. I do not drive very much and I only drive on my good days. My problem is my brain gets distracted so easily that I lose focus on the task of driving. I also get overwhelmed by the many things around me in a driving environment.

Please be careful about your driving. Causing injury to others just makes our condition worse.

My best to you.

I experienced similar symptoms during the first month or two, and I was terrified that they would never go away. I felt like I was living in a dream, and it was the oddest sensation that I've ever experienced.

The good news is that my brain fog (or whatever you'd call this) disappeared after a month or two. I found that taking curcumin seemed to help.

Did the ER doc send you for evaluations for an EEG for seizures? You could be having a specific type of seizure that others wouldn't notice but are causing the memory lapse.

I second mark. You really should not be driving if this his happening. I too avoid driving on days where this is really bad.

What Happened: On 3/8/11 I was stopped waiting to merge into traffic when I was rear ended by someone doing 45 mph. I walked away from the accident, to fall into the pit of PCS 5 days later... (I have had 2 previous concussions, but neither developed into PCS.)

Symptoms 3 Years Post: Physical: migraines, infrequent vertigo, neck and back pain (from accident), tinnitus, visual field deficits in left eye, problematic light sensitivity, (including visual seizure activity), noise sensitivity, EXTREME fatigue, semi-frequent disrupted sleep cycles,
Cognitive: semi-frequent Brain fog after cognitive strain, limited bouts of impulsivity, unable to concentrate for more than short periods of time without fatigue, word finding problems, slowed processing speeds, impaired visual memory;
Emotional: easily overstimulated, depression, anxiety;

Treatment so far: Vestibular therapy; Physical Therapy; Vision Therapy; Vitamin Schedule; Limited caffeine; Medications; attempting to limit stress and overstimulation; Yoga; Cognitive Therapy

...consider not-driving until you're much much better or you could bump someone and cause the same thing for them

Thank you all for your replies, sorry have not posted until now.

My husband usually drives thank goodness, I am scared to because of how I feel. Had an appt the other day, hubbie was working so I had to drive myself.

My brain just goes completely blank, it's like I suddenly wake up or think I'm seeing something that's not right, eg: the traffic lights, then I start panicking for fear of hitting someone, so...no more driving for me right now.

At the ER they only did an MRI but suggested seeing a neurologist as I did have a severe concussion after accident.

On going battle to get in to see one though.

I get the same thing as you. I have also decided to stop driving for the most part.

Sitke,

Please don't drive for your safety and others. I can't drive so I understand the frustration.

During my first six months or so I had time loss. Small moments of where am I? How did I get here? I do have memory issues. It was very frightening for me. At one appt they asked me where my daughter was. In my head my answer was I don't have a daughter. Took me five or so seconds to realize I have a daughter. She's 10 yrs old! Scared me to a crying fit. Many other experiences like that.

I don't get that confused now unless I am hitting a bad migraine or way, way overstimulated and I'm nearly at 18 months.

I hope the docs can help you.

Peace and wellness,

Jace

I wasn't able to drive for more than a year after the severe concussion I sustained.

I got rides from friends, family members and my boyfriend who took time off from work to drive me to various medical appointments.

Some areas also have a ride service for those with medical conditions that prohibit them from driving. I recommend you look into it, or post where you live in this thread so others can look into it for you if you're unable to. A note from a Dr. can help get free assistance like this if the organization providing this kind of help needs it.
