If you go too slow and carefully, she will not see how and when you fail and will not be able to properly diagnose your condition. You want an accurate diagnosis, not one based on your slow accommodations.

She can not help you fix things that she does not witness.

Like I said, Im open to anything that helps, and maybe I just need to look at this different. I think half my problem today, and the reason I did pretty decent was I took a lot of time to figure things out. It seemed she wanted my inital reaction on a lot of the quick though questions, but I took my time. Im glad I did though, because I know if I just answered the first thing that crossed my mind I wouldve failed epically.
How long someone needs to be in therapy will depend on a number of factors, including the type of therapy and the deficits the individual is facing.

I was in therapy for months and months. My processing speed, especially at the start, was very slow and it took me a long time to work through the Attention Processing module. I also had to work on some pretty serious speech issues.

One of the things they will be measuring is his processing speed. They will measure him against the norm for task completion.

However, I do I agree that a TBI patient should never try and hide deficits from a therapist.

Thank you guys. My wife did tell me she wrote down everytime I took a while. Its going to be a bit rougher I think next week as she did say itll be more difficult and my wife wont be there in the same room as a support. That alone will be rougher for me. She obv didnt help me at all with the questions but just knowing she was there relaxed me a lot.

She also noted my mood swings. Im always a very polite person no matter what the situation is. But evidently I lost it a few times and started cussing. Something I would never normally do.

With only five sessions, she needs to see his difficulties right up front. Slowed processing speed is only one piece of the puzzle. I live with slowed processing speed. Mine is in the bottom 10th to 25th percentile. But, I do not purposely slow down to concentrate during testing.

Well I will say, ive had quite a few cognitive therapy sessions and im glad to say it is helping tremendously. I can finally start to remember stuff, and even speak much better. I mean, I still have a decent ways to go, but man im rather impressed with how its helping those two things.

Im booked for a few more appointments, so hopefully all goes well. I mean, I still have trouble even during the sessions, and I will openly admit, it totally destroys my head but its definitely helping.

Only thing im disappointing is in I was hoping it would help my headaches and foggyness and all that other stuff going on, but sadly it doesnt. It does feel nice to hold a somewhat normal conversation for a little bit of time though before I start to get overwhelmed.

Hopefully this will lead into the rest recovering soon?

That's encouraging news, Kev.

Don't be disappointed about ongoing headaches, fog and fatigue. Cognitive therapy isn't about "curing" your cognitive injuries; it's about teaching your brain to cope better with them. Also don't get depressed if you have ups and downs in cognitive therapy. That's normal: tbi recovery is rarely about uninterrupted progress.

I'm glad that the therapy is helping you. You really deserve a break. Your wife must be thrilled, too.
