I've been experiencing muscle twitches and hand tremors since my concussion in October. I notice that they have gotten better but are definitely worsened by stress and anxiety. They seem to have improved over time but I still feel them pretty bad as I'm trying to fall asleep or if I'm trying to hold still.

It's good to know that other people are experiencing this as a symptom of PCS, because it is a terrifying experience. Most likely relaxation techniques would be helpful for all of us. I believe reducing anxiety associated with PCS is the true first step towards recovery. Easier said than done.

I had these head and body tremors started after about 6 months. It started after I took my first dose of notriptyline antidepressant. I still get them in my semi sleep state upon waking up but these have become far and few in between now. Maybe all this is a part of recovery?

I find it amazing how quickly medical professionals will throw tricyclic antidepressants like nortriptyline at people who just suffered traumatic brain injuries without a second thought. Granted there is some benefit to them in that they can be used to treat migraines but their side effects are documented and plentiful.

It seems the accepted course of treatment for PCS is targeting symptoms, instead of targeting the source of the problems. The truth is there is no treatment for PCS. I, myself, was prescribed amitriptyline to aid in my sleep and for the headaches and noticed an increase in the tremors. It shows you that it really is a big money game for the pharmaceutical companies.

Amitriptyline, being generic, has long not been a BigPharma money game. It just happens to help some with insomnia and head aches.

I take gabapentin to help my body let go so I can sleep without muscle tension and tremors/body jerks.

Question Shaking brain

I have noticed I get what I can best describe as a shaky brain and a shaky feeling within my body when I'm overtired or overloaded. It's a very strange sensation and I take it as a cue to lay down and do nothing if I can. Would you guys call these tremors?

My story in a nutshell:
Wife, mother of 4 and new teacher. Have had a few childhood knocks, snowboard falls and 2 major MVAs.

Hit top of my head pretty hard on a cabinet door in July, 2014, then our old pantry door broke off its hinge and hit me in the left temple on Sept. 21st, 2014. Maybe my 8th or 9th concussion. Apparently, one knock too many.

Currently dealing with most of the "normal" PCS symptoms. I'm trying to heal and get back to a normal life and my teaching job.

Things are far too bright and noisy everywhere. I yearn for a good night's sleep.

Undergoing cognitive and vestibular therapy. Hopeful for great progress and healing!

Sweet,

It sounds similar to what I am experiencing. I notice a shaking feeling in my head, complete with my head bobbing up and down and it gets worse before bed. I think I just have more time to think about it and notice it. I call it a tremor.

SweetC,

I call it a weird feeling...it happens to me for the same reasons as you mention.

I don't know how to describe it to my wife so I call it that "weird feeling".I notice it first in my head and within 5 minutes or so it settles over my body and I get weak feeling and somewhat disoriented. Rest settles it down.

I have the same symptoms mostly always laying down and usually right when drifting off to sleep or awaking from sleep. It is strange and I get a weird sensation in my head then body shakes and sometimes night sweats. It awakens me out of my dosing off to sleep and I too then get nervous about what's going on.

The only info I can find on anything remotely close to what it sounds like we are all experiencing is :

I see my doc tomorrow to ask him. I asked my Neurologist and he just said post concussive migraines which I didn't quite agree with as they are not necessarily a headache.

I have gotten used to them and feel that there is nothing to be scared of. If I find out more I'll let you all know! Good luck and good sleeping!

Has anyone actually had a diagnosis of this and is it similar to what I and it seems others are going through?
