Default Over 10 Concussions

I've read through several posts and feel that my case is small compared to others.

I have a question. I'm 55 and during my life I've had at least 10 concussions (could be more as I've lost count) and have blacked out during 5 of them. Some were car wrecks, I was in an abusive relationship, and have slipped and fell several times cutting open my head. I don't remember getting a CT or MRIs.

Anyway I am applying for SSDI for Major Depression, PTSD, Panic and Anxiety disorder. Can having concussions cause my depression, etc? I also have migraines, abnormal sleep patterns and irritability. I tend to lose focus and lose concentration. Anyone have any opinions?? Your comments are appreciated!!

Daw,

Welcome to NeuroTalk.

Your symptoms could easily be caused or made worse by your concussion history. Rather than defining and diagnosing your disability, focus on getting your SSDI application started based on your limitations. Your struggle to focus and concentrate should be the basis of your claim. Your irritability is also a work limiting condition. let the SSDI people/ Disability Determination Service determine how to define your condition. Depression, anxiety, and OCD can all be treated successfully with meds. The cognitive issues from a history of concussions is hard to treat and at your age, normally a declining condition.

I've been through the same application process. SS hired a occupational psychologist to review my records and he recommended approval.

My best to you.
