I have a flu. My body aches, my headache is out of control, high temperature. Add my PCS symptoms to it - I feel like I'm dying. Tylenol did pretty much nothing - just made my headache a little bit duller.
I can't sleep at night because of my fly symptoms. Is it safe to take nyquil (after tylenol)? I must get some sleep, so I can drive my kids to the camp tomorrow morning. Leaving them at home is not an option - they are in camp until 6 and I'll have the whole day to myself to recover. If possible, reply asap since it's already 8:40 pm in seattle. Thanks!

2002 - hit my head on a washer door while doing laundry. Recovered in 24 hours (was 7 months pregnant at that time) 2005 (maybe 2006) - kitchen cabinet (it took me ~ 1 week to recover) 2009 - refrigerator shelf, recovered in 1 month summer, 2011 - metal rail, the life-changing concussion. Black out for ~10 minutes, spent ~2weeks in bed (wasn't able to even use a bathroom by myself). Made a complete recovery in 2 months. October, 2011 - washer door again. Recovered in 1 months. March, 2012 - kitchen cabinet again. Suicidal depression. Was diagnosed with OCD. Severe anxiety. Was completely recovered in 4 months, celexa is a magical pill. After that I managed to go almost 1.5 years without a concussion! Was at a completely symptom-free stage, started volunteering at my kids' school again. I was living a happy life. Then, August, 2013 - fell down the stairs, broke my ankle badly (my surgeon said that he literally has never seen anything that bad ever before and he's been practicing for more than 20 years). September, 2013 - my son was hugging me and we bumped into each other. Result - complete return of all of my symptoms., no improvement with time. Severe depression again. 7/7/2014 - hit my self on a metal shelf again while trying to clean. I'm not clumsy. It's just the floor hates me, the tables and chairs are bullies and the wall gets in the way. |

It depends what other meds you're on. As it uses sedating antihistamines, you might not want to use it, if you're on sleeping pills. Is there 24 hour pharmacy you could call to get some expert advice?
Off hand, as it contains alcohol, it wouldn't be my first choice. I hope your flu passes quickly. I know the first rule of motherhood is "Moms can't be sick." |

Thanks for your quick responses! I appreciate it.
Unfortunately, 24-hours pharmacy and nursing hotline won't work. I have a husband, who is a health care provider (PA-C). He told me - sure, why not. I think, that's what they will tell me. I'll try google though. I can't damage my brain more than it's already damaged. I'm not on any sleeping pills. I usually sleep ok, it's the flu that won't let me sleep. Thanks again for your responses! I wish you LOTS OF HEALTH and strength!

Marina,
An important issue is how much acetaminophen you have in your system. Nyquil has acetaminophen. Different versions of Nyquil have different doses of acetaminophen. Check the label. Just be sure you are not taking too much of it. The max dose of acetaminophen is about 1000 mgs every 8 hours

Just noticed. Your PA husband should know. Just check the dose.

Thank you, Mark, for your input!
Here is a dosage on my nyquil pills: Acetaminophen 325 mg (Pain reliever/fever reducer) Dextromethorphan HBr 15 mg (Cough suppressant) Doxylamine succinate 6.25 mg (Antihistamine) I took 500 mg of tylenol before. So, I think, it's safe to take it since it's below 1000. That's probably why husband told me it's safe. I should have listened, but better safe than sorry Ok, I can't handle any more of the screen time. Thank you all again!

If you are taking an SSRI for depression it is not safe to use products with DM in them. NyQuil has DM in it. DM is for cough.
If you don't have a cough, don't use this product. For sleeping, only just try Unisom. It has the antihistamine in it and potential for much fewer interactions with other medications. Unisom is typically more sleep inducing than Benadryl but it may have a drowsiness hangover too.
