Default Hey guys, about that weight loss surgery..

OK...so twice I had a surgery date and twice they had to cancel because of high white count. Can brain injury have anything to do with high count 7 years later? Chronic severe back muscles spams and pain came with the injury.

I was 410!!!!! last time I saw them about two months ago. I'm now 358. Lost the fifty fast and then maintained but it would take great effort to lose another fifty. The weight loss office will be shocked when they see my weight.

The thing is with my itchy, irritating nerves on my head and facial burning, pulsatile tinnitus, sleep problems and not being the most mentally stable guy , would it be taking on too much? or will I really regret NOT getting it down the line?

I would really miss my diet coke (I know it's not good for you but it gets me through the Bad brain symptoms days), snacks here and there, much rather lose it on my own, but can I....

It's either start walking every day (my agoraphobia and pain make it very hard to get out the front door) and eat well, or get the surgery (you're still supposed to go out and walk every day), OR most likely not see 50, according to doctor. Those are the choices.

Some medications can raise white blood cell count.
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/e...cle/003643.htm
WBC count - Medline Plus

Some medications can also cause weight gain in some people.
Antidepressants for example.

If you have surgery you still need to walk everyday, so why not walk every day and avoid surgery.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) can be helpful used alone or in conjunction with medications (that I think you're already taking) to ease anxiety about leaving home.

On a more personal note...

A dear friend of mine had this surgery some years back and has since endured 2 more major surgeries since then because of bowel obstructions. It's not a road to go down imho.

Lara, in case you don't know me I'm crazy, stubborn and lazy, so the obvious answer is too easy

Have so much trouble getting out front door since injury...don't know why...maybe gave up a little

You are so right about if I walked I would lose weight. I'm not a glutton. I was 250 before injury but felt GREAT and strong as an ox, used to walk to ferry from 50th street (miss working in Rockefeller Plaza)...

put the 100 pounds on in years 3 and 4 when I felt good enough to eat, but too sick to leave the house..put on another fifty driving cab for a year...

how I feel now is as normal as I might ever feel (new guys, I've had multiple bad head injuries, so don't think you'll be me) but I'm sure losing 100 pounds wouldn't hurt.

Thanks for the tip on the medicine. I keep telling them that and they keep ignoring me. Sometimes it's normal, sometimes it's high.

Lara WOW!! that's one of my fears, or ripping of the sutures, third world diseases from nutrient deficiency, and other things...the people who had it say it was great at the meetings..but I bet the ones who aren't doing so well don't show up at those meetings...

Well, I have been posting to you for a very long time here on many different forums, so...

Personally, if it was me, I would ask one of your doctors about the reason you have elevated white cell count for so very long before doing anything else or even regarding searching different types of surgeries including the DBS and the Bariatric surgery.

FYI there is a Weight Loss and Healthy Living Forum here at NT.

My concern is that the bypass surgery may throw your body chemistry off. As it is, it sounds like your system is struggling. Throwing a new monkey wrench into the system may be a bigger problem.

If you could lose 50 already, you should be able to lose another fifty. What will the surgery be worth if you lose the weight but still don't get out of the house. Your sedentary life will still be shortened. I suggest you should work on your need to get out of the house and not think about the surgery until you have succeeded at routinely getting out of the house.
