I am 27 years old and 4 months into PCS. The only major symptoms I had was tinnitus and sensitivity to jolting/shaking of head. I was doing pretty good lately and the symptoms seemed to subside and tinnitus faint into background until I stopped taking notryptiline 25mg 2 days back. My neuro and GP both assured me it's safe to discontinue as the dose is low. The sudden stopping has come hard on me. I am having nasty tinnitus spikes since today morning and it's constant. I am feeling dizziness, heart palpitation( probably because of notryptiline) which has not settled yet, shaky legs and body, weird pressure feeling in my head and fainting spells. I cannot balance my body when I stand. All this has come all of the sudden and has put my body into shock! I am feeling terrible right now and crying! I am trying to sleep but I have terrible insomnia as well. The tinnitus is exploding and screaming like never before. What should I do??
I just went for a 15 min walk and I am feeling exhausted and drained totally! I called up my GP and he told me to start notryptiline again. Is it ok?? Should I just go to sleep and expect all this to stop in a day or two? |

Try a half dose of the Nortriptyline. If it helps, take it for a few days then reduce again.

The road to recovery from PCS is a rocky one. It is a roller coaster ride. I have had regressions/new symptoms appearing out of the blue, months into it. You are still in the early stage of recovery, so do not despair.
That being said, I have noticed that my body has gotten very sensitive to any types of medications and even supplements. Stopping the medication could have been too much of a change/shock to your body. Mark is an expert. (in my experience, he knows more than any GPs, or specialists I have come across). |

Broke the pill and took half of it yesterday night. Woke up this morning feeling fresh and tinnitus very faint, although I am still feeling a little sedated and sleepy lol..that's what I want I guess. All other symptoms are gone. Thank you for your quick response Mark. You are doing a great work being here helping us newbies when nobody understands this **** PCS...god bless

Don't expect anything to change the tinnitus. It will improve on its own schedule. No drugs will effect it.

Nortriptyline may help with insomnia, head ache and anxiety/depression but does nothing for tinnitus. Nothing will help with tinnitus.

My husband suffers from tinnitus, as well. Not as much anymore, I was heartbroken when I saw the look on his face when they said it may never go away completely. He does still get it. It's usually a warning sign as to an episode. Before the accident, he suffered from occasional migraines and would smell something odd right before they hit. It's similar to that- only now he gets tinnitus when he's about to have an episode.... an episode may mean anxiety... or it may be dizziness, nausea and headache.... it just depends. He had an episode a couple of weeks ago where we were in a store and the ringing started- he started to feel warm and sick and had to go sit in the car.
