Default 2 months after concussion, only getting worse

I'm new on here, so I'll start with what happened and how I got a concussion in the first place.

I was in class and my friend and I both bend down at the same time to pick up the same thing--we smashed heads. I didn't think anything of it, had a slight headache but that was it. I went on with my daily routines and never had it occurred to me that it might be more serious than I had though.

About a week later, I was playing catch with my brother with a football. He threw it really hard and it hit the back of my head. I fell down and stayed down for a couple minutes. I didn't black out, but my head hurt pretty bad. I continued sprinting and except sizing that same day after I got hit because once again, I had no idea that this was serious either. The following week I still continued going on runs, going to class, going to work, and pushed through exams. I needed the marks to get into university and thought that getting good grades was the only important thing at the time.

A couple weeks later I was finished exams, and it was finally summertime. It was then that it hit me. My head hurt like hell, I would get stabbing pains all throughout my head, my ears would constantly ring, it felt like I was in a fog--not real. Life at all. I couldn't see straight, felt nauseous and dizzy. The only time I felt at all okay was when I payed down and did absolutely nothing. No cell phone, no tv, no reading or lights. It was hell.

I have taken almost a month off of work now. I went back yesterday for the first time, and I felt okay for the first 2 hours, and then it all hit me again. My symptoms all came rushing back and I had to leave. It felt like I was in a daze, and my head was pounding.

I am in such a bad place right now. I used to exercise everyday, and sitting doing nothing is complete torture to me. I don't know if I will have to quit my job or not, or if I should just work this upcoming month and attempt to push through it.... Does anyone have experience with working post concussion? Should I quit?

I feel like there is nothing to look forward to anymore. The doctor doesn't seem to be able to do anything either. I just want my life back, I'm going crazy with the way I am.

Maddie,

Welcome to NeuroTalk. Sorry to hear of your struggles.

What you are experiencing is quite common. You need to rest your brain and body. Read the Vitamins sticky at the top.

Regarding your job, it sounds like you need to take more time off.

What did you do during the time you took off from work ? Did you rest ?

During the month I've had off I've been resting everyday. Haven't been doing much physical activity at all. The most is a short walk around the block, and even then I don't feel good at all.

Maddie,

Sorry to hear about your troubles. We all have to go through them at some point in our lives. Unfortunately you will have to give all this a lot of time and good care, but things do get better with time. The good thing is that this phase will teach you a lot about yourself and build a character. You will learn to prioritise things in your life in a better way.

I am myself just 4 months into this and having a hard time dealing with some symptoms. Mark, hockey and some others on here have a lot of knowledge about this stuff and will give you much better ideas to cope with this. You should shut down your life completely and take rest for now as much as you can. Get on some anxiety or sleeping pills to make you feel relaxed if you can. If possible stop all sport activities for some time till all your symptoms go away completely. It's your brain we are taking about here man. It's the most precious and poorly understood organ of the body. And as Mark said, start your vitamin regimen immediately. Just stick to your routine and avoid going out much for sometime if possible. I am not sure if a CT scan or an MRI will be helpful here as it probably will be negative but have a word with your neuro and discuss things. Get lots of sleep, eat good, go for light walks, keep your mind occupied and don't think much about it.

We are always here for you to listen and we understand what you are going through...Remember, willing to get better is a part of recovery..so just stay positive no matter what your situation is..something good will come out of it at the end I promise...sorry for preaching so much lol..have a speedy recovery..god bless

Hey there,

Completely understand, 2 months is so recent and I know how I felt at that point, just wanted to be back to 100% but it takes time.

You must rest and take very good care of yourself, doing too much will set you back.

I was also very active before the concussion, love hiking/mountain climbing, I went to doing absolutely nothing and I tell you I sat and cried over it.

Don't attempt to do a lot, your brain has to heal, make sure you are eating well.

I remember the first time I attempted to go for a short walk, I felt beyond terrible and my head was exploding, didn't even get a block, it gets better though, just takes time unfortunately.

Take care of yourself, people here totally understand what you are going through and all the emotions you are feeling.

Thumbs up hear you loud and clear

I think my story is linked to my intro? I am still trying to find my way around this site. Thank god for it, though. I am just over one month on this journey, and the feelings you describe are right where i'm at.
Take heart, you are not alone.

JuliaBertha,

Welcome to NeuroTalk. I read your intro in New Members. Did the stylist work on your neck, especially your upper neck ? I bet she did.

I looked at the substances you recommended. Lucy appears to be an advocate of homeopathic remedies. If they work for you, that is great. There is rarely any therapeutic dose to homeopathic remedies. The cell salts are 3x to 6x meaning they are diluted to 0.001 to 0.000001 of the original. The Omega 3 and B vitamins are important. Check out the Vitamins sticky at the top.

Please tell us more about your injury and struggles. Where did she put pressure ? Where was your previous concussion ? What are your current symptoms ?

At only one month, you are early in your recovery. Hopefully, you will be one of the many who recover within 6 to 8 weeks.

My best to you.
