Default Anniversary

Today is the 7th anniversary of my mva. Even Hallmark doesn't have a card for that one.

I'm glad you've made contact with BIAA. It's important to reach out to those who understand and know where to get help.

There doesn't seem any appropriate words to say.

I thinking of you.

The card for today is a Condolence card. We need to try to remember that a part of us died on this day. Fortunately, just a part of us died. Most of us is still kicking.

Fortunately, for many that part did not die. It is just struggling.

I have two dates. I don't know the exact date in 1965 when I suffered my bad accident. But, on January 16, 2001, the injury that caused my disability happened.

My best to you.

Dear Hockey,

My heart is with you. As Mark said - part of us died on that day. It was our worst part. The best part of us is still there

2002 - hit my head on a washer door while doing laundry. Recovered in 24 hours (was 7 months pregnant at that time)
2005 (maybe 2006) - kitchen cabinet (it took me ~ 1 week to recover)
2009 - refrigerator shelf, recovered in 1 month
summer, 2011 - metal rail, the life-changing concussion. Black out for ~10 minutes, spent ~2weeks in bed (wasn't able to even use a bathroom by myself). Made a complete recovery in 2 months.
October, 2011 - washer door again. Recovered in 1 months.
March, 2012 - kitchen cabinet again. Suicidal depression. Was diagnosed with OCD. Severe anxiety. Was completely recovered in 4 months, celexa is a magical pill.

After that I managed to go almost 1.5 years without a concussion! Was at a completely symptom-free stage, started volunteering at my kids' school again. I was living a happy life. Then,

August, 2013 - fell down the stairs, broke my ankle badly (my surgeon said that he literally has never seen anything that bad ever before and he's been practicing for more than 20 years).
September, 2013 - my son was hugging me and we bumped into each other. Result - complete return of all of my symptoms., no improvement with time. Severe depression again.

7/7/2014 - hit my self on a metal shelf again while trying to clean.

I'm not clumsy. It's just the floor hates me, the tables and chairs are bullies and the wall gets in the way.

Yes, it's amazing how your whole life can change in an instant. I always tell people, don't put off the things you want to do. I try to seize the moment myself.

I've been told, if I push myself less, that I may be able to prolong the time before my spinal injuries put me in a wheelchair. However, my daughter needs me now. I want to host sleepovers, drive her to amusement parks and take her to her activities, while I still can.

If I can hold out until she's off to college, I'll be able to face the wheelchair, knowing I did the best I could for her, when she needed me most. Then, I'll try to be the best wheelchair mom any adult child ever had. Heck, you can console daughters over broken romances and lazy landlords, from a sitting position.

Hockey-
You just brought tears to my eyes. Your attitude about being the best you can be-despite this pcs/mtbi- is inspiring.

7 years of hugging what sounds like a great daughter from a great mom!
