Default Can extreme stress damage the healing brain?

I had a huge fight with a family member which included me screaming(the vibration from screaming hurts my head, so I do not normally do this) and which left me emotionally burnt out.. I have been feeling a little different ever since the event. I feel numb or less emotional. I feel like something did change, I just don't know what, and am wondering if anyone has been exposed to extreme stress and felt differently since then. Has the event structurally altered my brain somehow or is this psychological (ie. depression).

I had some pretty bad family situations going on at the beginning of my injury and it seems like it slowed the healing process down. Everything is fine family wise now, but I notice symptoms come on if I do stress bad, which I have a tendency of doing. None of it has seemed permanent, but then again with PCS I don't know what is haha. Give it a few days, maybe even a week, you should feel better.

Will,

I don't know if it's psychological or some kind of a brain damage, but I'm going through exactly the same thing. And I wasn't even screaming

My cat is sick. I love her to death and this is the extremely stressful situation for me. The stress made my depression even worse. I think very slow (not that I was thinking like a normal person before). I can't concentrate on anything. Sometimes I hear people, but I don't get what they are saying. I have to re-ask the same question 3-4 times. This is very frustrating. I'm so scared that I'm gonna stay like this.

I had an unfortunate incident today at our vet office. The receptionist treated me like I was some kind of a stupid person, who can't understand simple word. I broke into tears in front of her and stormed out. This is creepy. I just really hope this will go away, otherwise, I'm so screwed.

Will, I hope I'm worse than you are. That will give you hope that there is this 35years old woman in Seattle, who is way worse than you are. That should be a cheering thought

2002 - hit my head on a washer door while doing laundry. Recovered in 24 hours (was 7 months pregnant at that time)
2005 (maybe 2006) - kitchen cabinet (it took me ~ 1 week to recover)
2009 - refrigerator shelf, recovered in 1 month
summer, 2011 - metal rail, the life-changing concussion. Black out for ~10 minutes, spent ~2weeks in bed (wasn't able to even use a bathroom by myself). Made a complete recovery in 2 months.
October, 2011 - washer door again. Recovered in 1 months.
March, 2012 - kitchen cabinet again. Suicidal depression. Was diagnosed with OCD. Severe anxiety. Was completely recovered in 4 months, celexa is a magical pill.

After that I managed to go almost 1.5 years without a concussion! Was at a completely symptom-free stage, started volunteering at my kids' school again. I was living a happy life. Then,

August, 2013 - fell down the stairs, broke my ankle badly (my surgeon said that he literally has never seen anything that bad ever before and he's been practicing for more than 20 years).
September, 2013 - my son was hugging me and we bumped into each other. Result - complete return of all of my symptoms., no improvement with time. Severe depression again.

7/7/2014 - hit my self on a metal shelf again while trying to clean.


I'm not clumsy. It's just the floor hates me, the tables and chairs are bullies and the wall gets in the way.

will, a dragged out fight can leave your brain overloaded with stress hormones and other toxic results from the stress. It takes time for the brain to purge, especially if the stress level is not lowered adequately.

You need to learn to turn and walk away. Nobody wins and you lose the most.

Been there, done that. Does not help a bad brain.

But, this did not create new long term damage.

Are you taking the vitamin and supplements regimen ?

Marina, you are in my thoughts.

Mark, I take multi-vitamins, Omega-3, B-12. thoughts? (I've read your vitamin sticky, but due to my sensitive stomach, adding more to this has been difficult)

I have to say that there is something to this. The MAJORITY of my stress comes from dealing with insurance. A constant battle almost everyday that has reduced me to tears many times in front of my son and my parents. And, I am not a crier...well I guess I am post-accident.
