hi y'all,
quick question. my vision problems are relatively mild but the exercises the neuro-chiro has me doing to "quiet" some area of my brain that is overstimulated (noise, light, action) has me wondering whether i would benefit from vision therapy. Vision issues are basically: light sensitivity, delayed focusing on moving objects...hard to describe, but if i read a few pages, while turning the page my right eye feels like it rolls. it doesn't, but it feels like it. moving things on screens and children are nightmares. thoughts on whether i'd benefit? thoughts on what sorta doctor/narrow specialty to look for (and hope i have it in my small town)? thank you! well and on a brighter note a week ago i was hating, HATING, hating life. now i'm nitpicking about my eyes. i'll call that progress, climbing out of set back holes is rough.

Those remaining are fatigue, brain freezes/overstimulation, headaches, sensitivity to light and sound. Insomnia is getting better but still an issue, and appetite is ba-ack! Depression and anxiety are largely under control thanks to Lexapro, exercise, and a very distant light at the end of the tunnel. Drugs: Lexapro, occasional 2-5mgs ambien. Off amatryptaline. Taking about 453 supplements. Just started vision therapy, waiting on some blue-tinted prism glasses. "You will encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. A developmental ophthalmologist can usually do a screening and will tell you if they think vision therapy will help you.

You can look for a referral at http://www.braininjuries.org or http://www.nora.cc for a provider that will evaluate you and see if you will benefit from vision therapy.

I had very similar problems with my eyes. The first year of my TBI I was not well enough to even want to read - even though I was an avid reader. During the Olympics - I was stunned when I realized I could not watch hockey or skate dancing - I knew then there was a problem. Fortunately my physio therapist - the only one who had a tremendous knowledge of concussions - even more than my doc and neuro - in my opinion - suggested a neuro optometrist. I made one appointment - and he identified my problem right away. I started with therapy - it is still early - but I think I am seeing some improvement. The therapy created some terrible headaches - but I worked with my therapist to try and make it better for me. On the downside - it is very expensive - not sure if it is cheaper elsewhere. But at this point I have tried everything else and am desperate for something to work. It also requires committment - I have a 45 minute therapy session - and then must do homework everyday. I am home all day anyway - so it works for me. Hope this has been helpful. Take care GingerandBella |
