Did anyone see the sports related brain injury and its long term effects forum on CSPAN2 last night? I joined it about 15 minutes late, and I don't remember the actual name of the program, but basically it was different state senators asking a panel of doctors and ex-athletes about the effects and costs of researching CTE from repeated head blows in sports.

It did cover concussions somewhat on its way to the actual subject of CTE, but the most promising part of the program was when one senator asked the Neurosurgeon from Boston if the government were able to give double the amount of monies currently being used for research, how the research would benefit. The Neurosurgeon stated the answers would become exponentially discovered, with the possibility of clinical trials, which is unheard of now.

So it seems to me that there is such benefit for us here with mTBI's, spurred on by the unfortunate discoveries of these professional athletes. They are suffering from dementia, severe depression and other neurological diseases like Parkinson's after sustaining repeated blows to the head. It has brought brain injuries and the sometimes severe consequences to light.

Hockey said it best earlier; there can be no "cure" or road to a cure if there isn't even acknowledgement of a problem, or a uniform way to diagnose brain injury, especially mild brain injury. I hope this research establishes a consistent way to diagnose brain injury right from the beginning that can be used without discrimination so that nobody has to suffer from CHRONIC traumatic encephalopathy ever again. There can also be no cure if those of us that have issues do not stand up and advocate for proper treatment!

The Start: MVA, t-boned, on 1-12-14 (my sons 5th birthday) and did not think anything of it.. my back hurt on site but everything else seemed ok. Lost about 10-12 hours from about 3 hours after the accident to the next day...Experienced terrible brain fog for over a month, plus intense headaches, nausea, dizziness, cognitive difficulties, disorientation, no short term memory, depression and just an overall hangover feeling daily.

Current Situation: I'm about 7 months in and my local neurologist has waived her white flag and therefore I am headed to Dallas to be seen (I have family there). The headaches are still daily. I have nausea, dizziness as well.

Drugs I have been on- Vicodin (off), Naproxen (off), proanolol (off), topamax (off), cataflam (off), Midrin (off), Flexeril (off) and now Namenda XR (off), Nortrptylin (off), Verapamil (off)

Therapy- Osteopath, Vestibular and balance therapy, fuzion/soft tissue massage, acupuncture

Drs- ER (no help), GP, Chiropractor, Neurologist and Osteopath

good points music-in=me. and some of us with multiple injuries are not immune to cte, dementia etc down the road and will be really happy when in 10, 15 years the treatments are tremendously advanced. we will benefit. In the meantime I take my turmeric and try to preserve what I have left

and now there is an army (literally) of soldiers and their family who are screaming for more money and treatment.

i will cope with the symptoms but I will make darn sure I know of a new treatment that comes down the pipe for any symptom when it does.

i have volunteered for studies and there are a bunch in the nyc area, but they want imaged proof, which is why improve imaging techniques are so important
