Question Hoping for clues?

Hello - I found this link from a wiki page. I'm a woman aged 55, who was struck by a car (that didn't stop) while riding my bicycle without a helmet. Also, I have suffered as a child two concussions, one that landed me in a coma for a couple days. My bicycle accident was 1 year ago, 8/5/13. I had a cat scan and was told they wanted to operate, but couldn't as the location of the fracture was behind my right eye, so they couldn't get to the site. I did lose consciousness, briefly at the accident site. I reported to the ER after my son insisted, hours after the accident. My neurologist, whom I saw about a month afterwards, said I may suffer from the side effects of my closed head injury, which was the same as a open head injury, for months or years. BTW my neuro is a UC Davis teaching scientist, and I have been with him since 2008. He knows me!
Ok. Thank you if you are still reading. I started having frequent falls, a drainage from the left nostril only of something cloudy to clear that is increasing in frequency. I still have problems with bursts of anger, forgetfulness, and my R eye is still problematic. That's just the bigger stuff. I'm concerned if the falls and discharge could be from my head injury still they started about 3 or 4 months ago. Any constructive thoughtful comments are appreciated. My internist is at a loss as to why the falls are occurring. Thanks.

I am sorry about your injury, but welcome to NT.

"Clumsiness" is not uncommon after TBI. It can have a number of sources, but one of the biggest is visual-spatial issues. Have you been examined by a neuro-optomologist?

Another member, music-in-me, knows quite a bit about this, perhaps she'll weigh in.

Thank you Hockey. I can't seem to find where PM is an available choice to enable. I'm not really seeing how to reply from the UserCP page either! Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks

Hello,

Hockey has suggested I comment about visual-spatial issues. I was just diagnosed with them about 2 months ago, and was mostly unaware that I was having visual difficulties. I knew my balance was compromised, and I would frequently bump into things and walk on a single side of hallways, but I never attributed this to my vision.

I now have prism glasses, which help me a great deal with dimensions, like width and depth. I can negotiate stairs and hallways much better now.

As far as the discharge and falls you experience, I would definitely get your neurologist to examine you for anything more serious, and perhaps refer you to a neuro-ophthalmologist/ neuro-optometrist to examine you for potential vision changes which may be leading to your frequent falls. Take care, M-i-m

OMG! I have noticied that I walk on one side of halls, to the point now where I'm frequently brushing against the walls as I walk. I also have lost the little bit of depth perception I had, and my night vision is now almost completely gone. I can't tolerate brightness, though even a computer display causes me eye pain and dizziness if it isn't turned way down on the brightness.
Most of this is new since the accident. Where or how would I find someone to help me with these issues? Thanks!

Describe your symptoms to your family doctor or neurologist and ask for a referral to a neuro-optomologist.

I'm afraid that I'm not that adept at the technical aspects of the board. Hopefully one of the moderators will see your post and give you some instructions. They're very good about that.

Yes, I had not made enough posts yet (I now have) to have the choice of PM's. I'm good to go now! Thank you.
