My main symptoms are waking up with tremors and intense internal burning in arms and legs, pulsatile tinnitus, feeling faint when standing, pain all over head at times but mostly in back of head, burning facial pain.
Have read a lot about how vitamins and supplements help to treat initial head injury. Would love to have a reason to take them now. Cognitive issues not much of a problem. Do have anxiety, ocd and depression. |

Vitamins and supplements can help the brain tolerate stress and help maintain a strong blood/brain barrier. Anxiety causes toxins to collect in the brain. Vitamins help the brain flush them out. The myelin sheath around nerve fibers need good nutrition.

Mark, might you grind your teeth at night? that could add to the facial pain and headaches. i do and it causes bad facial pain...though i wouldn't describe it as burning. i had this attractive trait before my concussion. my tinnitus is stronger in the ear on the side where my jaw hurts more, but i didn't have tinnitus before the concussion...but TMJ syndrome can cause tinnitus.
i only bring it up b/c it's much more treatable than an ABI, and we all just want solutions, darmit! though a couple months after getting a mouthguard i'm still in pain. i think the lexapro makes me clench my teeth even more...

April 11, 2014 Flipped in class 2 white water while kayaking, hit my forehead (was wearing a helmet). Lots of symptoms to begin with. Those remaining are fatigue, brain freezes/overstimulation, headaches, sensitivity to light and sound. Insomnia is getting better but still an issue, and appetite is ba-ack! Depression and anxiety are largely under control thanks to Lexapro, exercise, and a very distant light at the end of the tunnel. Drugs: Lexapro, occasional 2-5mgs ambien. Off amatryptaline. Taking about 453 supplements. Just started vision therapy, waiting on some blue-tinted prism glasses. "You will encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. What is a strong blood/brain barrier and what does it do? Off the top of your head, are there any symptoms that I list that will be helped by vitamin intake. I have a three month supply but just couldn't find any literature on how taking them after initial few years helps. thank you for your time. Some of them have been proven in rats to fight the plagues that cause dementia and Alzheimer's. But I was hoping there was a more current reason. Will they help me deal with my injury better because I think we can all agree that they are never going to affect my sensory issues, like tinnitus, burning pain, twitches, spasms, etc. Or am I wrong? I am asking because I know you know a lot more about me on this subject and looking for guidance. Thank you in advance. |

The blood brain barrier prevents many substances from entering the brain. The brain has far less tolerance for many substances. The blood brain barrier protects it from these substances/toxins. The myelin sheath protects the axons. It also houses the glymph system, a system similar to our lymph system that carries toxins away after metabolism.
Would you prefer to drive around in a car with dirty oil and dirty gasoline or one with clean oil and clean gasoline ? btw, Buildup of toxins in the brain are a big part of depression and other mental struggles.
