I have been here before and told you about my initial concussion. The symptoms went away rather quickly the first time. Then came back after a run.
Now it has been a month since my run and my concussion symptoms are constant or even deteriorating, definitely no improvement. I have been trying to relax and I am still off work. But I received a shock, my girlfriend, a person that has been in my life for three years now, who is also my main friend in life, left me for another guy 3 weeks ago or so. This was a blow also because we spoke about getting married soon, we've been talking about this for few months now. my questions: - Could stress be causing the worsening in my symptoms? I am really afraid that stress could make this permanent or persistent effects. - what can I do? I don't like taking valium or other benzos since it makes me more dizzy. Also, I was always skeptic of antidepressants, which I never used, and I feel it could negatively affect my recovery or throw me even more off balance. I am in a very dark place right now and feel even more lost than on the first day. I usually manage breakups ok but this time I am in love and all alone, since I do not have close friends nor much family to speak of. Thank you all |

Yes, stress slows the healing. I have had very similar stressers happen to me, and more. Prescriptions do slow the healing also. Be aware that relationships change, be glad that you are capable of love. Give that love to yourself now, for your healing. It is sad and lonely, but great that it happened now before you married her. She was a nice stepping stone to show you what you want in life. Close that door with your blessings, and know a better relationship will come in perfect timing. Do you have a place where you can swim? and get massages. Google the benefits of turmeric for your brain, and lots of b-complex. Kava is a natural anti anxiety. Do all things good for your healing. Prepare yourself for the good things that are coming .

I almost teared up at your story man, and I am 40 years old. very sorry to hear. It is very hard for me to understand how can she leave you in the first weeks of concussion, I would not wish this even for my enemies... but life can be tough I think you need people around you, and if she is the only one, I would recommend you explain to her what concussion is, send her links, and I think any decent human being will find it in her heart to rethink things or at least give you more time... When I had my concussion. I became depressed, paranoid, and very needy, very hard to imagine what I would have done without my girlfriend who was just adorable and patient like never before... you have friends here.. update us.. and I do hope that your brain and your heart will heal soon... mark |

Stress slows healing but "I am really afraid that stress could make this permanent or persistent effects. " It does not cause permanent or persistent effects.
Kava is not safe if one is suffering depression. Also, be careful with B-Complex. A single B-Complex (B-50 or B-100) with some added B-12 is recommended, maybe some B-6, too. Taking more than one B-100 complex can overdo the B's that are only needed in small amounts. You can add some niacin, too, if you can tolerate the flushing.

I am so very sorry this is happening to you!!!
Yes, unfortunately stress can slow your progress... have you thought about talking with someone? Counselor? Therapist? I HATE drugs as well... you need to find a mindless task to take away the thoughts... can you walk? Play solitaire? read?

The Start: MVA, t-boned, on 1-12-14 (my sons 5th birthday) and did not think anything of it.. my back hurt on site but everything else seemed ok. Lost about 10-12 hours from about 3 hours after the accident to the next day...Experienced terrible brain fog for over a month, plus intense headaches, nausea, dizziness, cognitive difficulties, disorientation, no short term memory, depression and just an overall hangover feeling daily. Current Situation: I'm about 7 months in and my local neurologist has waived her white flag and therefore I am headed to Dallas to be seen (I have family there). The headaches are still daily. I have nausea, dizziness as well. Drugs I have been on- Vicodin (off), Naproxen (off), proanolol (off), topamax (off), cataflam (off), Midrin (off), Flexeril (off) and now Namenda XR (off), Nortrptylin (off), Verapamil (off) Therapy- Osteopath, Vestibular and balance therapy, fuzion/soft tissue massage, acupuncture Drs- ER (no help), GP, Chiropractor, Neurologist and Osteopath |

thanks for your thoughts and suggestions.
concussion+breakup are giving me insomnia too. I have been barely sleeping 4 hours each night for several days now. today i felt an earthquake, but it was my brain, first time i get this shaking when I am laying down and asleep... I tried to take sleeping pills and benzos but all they do is increase drowsiness and dizziness... weird that the clozepam not doing much to relieve the stress. |

After the initial concussion I went through a rough time and when I got better I went snowmobiling for a very easy ride and it all came crashing down. My fiance/gf of 5 years left me when I was at my worst (basically was a vegetable sitting at home), and it was rough, not going to lie. I'm very lucky to have a couple of friends that helped me to get through the bad times last year. The only medicine here is time unfortunately. Yeah you can medicate yourself to feel numb, but time and completely severing any contact with that person is the best advice I can give you.

Went snowmobiling once (didn't hit my head) and concussion symptoms returned and got even worse than before. June 2013 - accidentally bumped my head against a deck railing, and had a month-long setback. November 2013 - drove to work after a big snowstorm and the roads were very rough, ended up having another setback. 2014 - Having setbacks after coughing/sneezing too much, or someone slapping me on the back, or any other significant jarring. Feb 2014 - Started seeing Atlas Orthogonal chiro - most helpful doc so far. June 2014 - Two months of physical/visual therapy - no noticeable improvement. September 2014 - Diagnosed with Perilymph Fistula in right ear. November 2014 - Fistula surgery (switched to left ear before the surgery after additional testing). January 2016 - Quit work to "work" on figuring out PCS, so far it seems that eyes/vision issues are the most contributing factor, especially computer work. Current symptoms are: inconsistent sleep patterns, headaches, vertigo/dizziness, anxiety/panic attacks, mental fog/problems with concentration, problems with computer screens. |

A lot of times I can't tell if I'm feeling an actual earthquake or it's just me. Last week we had a 6.2 earthquake and at first I thought it was my head messing with me again, but when it really started to shake I was like "oh cool it's not my head"

Concussion symptoms have been unchanged for the last month!! If anything they got more chronic, before i felt i was healing and the symptoms come back only when suffer major stress or carry something or walk for long, but now they come out of the blue....
I am still suffering these emotional problems and i am dealing with a case of very serious depression due to the concussion and the breakup ... I also notice that when my concussion symptoms are bad i tend to become less able to handle emotions... I cry like a baby in the morning usually and since i am not seeing a way out, no improvement since the return of the symptoms in august, i have been feeling more hopeless than ever... I haven't been able to sleep well at all... Again breakup (which happened right after the return of symptoms) is not helping at all... I am heading to an ear doctor who is gonna test me for bppv, but my symptoms don't match well with those of bppv...dizziness last for hours and hours...nausea too..headaches...depression...brain fog... |
