Default Documentary to watch

There is a documentary called Head Games: The Global Concussion Crisis that is coming on the Pivot channel (267 for Direct TV users) 6:30pm central time tomorrow, October 22.

Some of you may have seen it, but I have not and am interested in what it has to offer. The information says it will discuss neurologic findings of those who have sustained multiple head injuries. Just though I'd share for any who are interested.

Take care!

Chris Nowinski, the athlete/author in Head Games started the discussion after many others failed to be heard. He co-founded the Sport Legacy Institute. SLI partnered with Boston University School of Medicine to found the Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy.

Head Games is available to be watched online from a number of sources if the current showing is not available. Dish Network has also had it many times.

What happened: Legs pulled forward by a parent's hockey stick while resting at the side of the rink at a family skate....sent me straight back. I hit the back of my head (with helmet) on the ice, bounced a few times, unconscious for a few minutes. September 11, 2011. Off work since then…I work part-time at home when I can. It has been hell but slowly feeling better (when I am alone☺).

Current symptoms: Vision problems (but 20/20 in each eye alone!) – convergence insufficiency – horizontal and vertical (heterophoria), problems with tracking and saccades, peripheral vision problems, eyes see different colour tints; tinnitus 24/7 both ears; hyperacusis (noise filter gone!), labyrinthian (inner ear) concussion, vestibular dysfunction (dizzy, bedspins, need to look down when walking); partial loss of sense of smell; electric shocks through head when doing too much; headaches; emotional lability; memory blanks; difficulty concentrating. I still can’t go into busy, noisy places. Fatigue. Executive functioning was affected – multi-tasking, planning, motivation. Slight aphasia. Shooting pain up neck and limited mobility at neck. Otherwise lucky!

Current treatments: Vestibular therapy, Vision therapy, amantadine (100 mg a day), acupuncture and physiotherapy for neck, slow return to exercise, magnesium, resveratrol, omega 3 fish oils, vitamins D, B and multi. Optimism and perserverance.

I've seen it twice. It is about the way concussions have been denied in football, soccer and rugby. It has very good information. It includes pathological information showing the damage evident in brains.

It has no information about treatment.

It will play again Saturday morning early at 7:00 am mountain time on PIVOT and again at 10:30 am on Sunday morning on PIVOT (channel 197 on Dish Network)
