An MRI often costs about $3000 at list price. A little shopping around and you should be able to find much better pricing. The major insurance companies pay about half that list price. Call the MRI imaging centers and ask to talk with the billing or administration departments. Tell them you do not have insurance to cover the cost and will be paying cash. They should be able to offer a much better price. Contrast can add to the lower cost.
Work Comp and Medicare have fixed prices that are much less that list price. You should be able to find out what the Medicare price is. Many on Medicare or Medicare Advantage have to pay a 20% copay so asking the Medicare price should not be a problem. You could even offer to pay cash at the Medicare price.
You could offer to be available in short notice to fill a last minute cancellation.
