Lightbulb Day by Day

Hello,

If you asked me what my life was like a couple a years ago I would have told you something completely different.
I love rugby more then anything so I moved out of state to play D1 rugby for a university.

After playing rugby for several years in high school and college I slowly developed ADHD and memory issues from hitting my head. I always made a joke out of my situation and just began to embrace it as part of my personality.

I never thought it was something that would stop me from playing. During my 3rd semester I noticed that I was having a harder time keeping up with school and rugby and my daily tasks because of fatigue. I began to see a counselor but I was sure that it was a minor issue and I could get past it.

After taking a big hit to the head on my last game of the season my symptoms increased dramatically. I fell into a depression and found it hard to get out of bed. When I did I was physically and mentally exhausted. I remember one day I got out of bed and I barely could get dressed. I had to sit down in the middle of the floor half dressed and re-gain my strength. Three weeks went by with the same symptoms.

I came home for Christmas and all I did was sleep. When I was awake my mood was across the board and I barely ate.

I went back to school to start training. When I got there I knew that I couldn't be there because I was too tired to continue rugby. The next day I with drawled from my classes and came home.

I am now living at home so I can be monitored.

It has been a big adjustment for me because I used to be so independent and social.

Most people I talk to don't understand.

But I am taking it day by day.

Thanks for reading.

aexk1,

Welcome to NeuroTalk.

I'm confused. Did you return to school to resume training for rugby ?

Doesn't your school have a concussion program and protocol ?

How many concussions have you had and how many 'dingers' have you had ?

And, what have you done to try to recover ?
