OK so I consulted a PT today and he pressed at a couple of points on my neck and asked me if it pains. I said yes and he told me I have soft tissue injury and inflammation which maybe causing sensitivity to bumps and jolts as well as tinnitus. He told me I would require ultrasound therapy and TENS machine treatment with some neck exercises and massage and would require atleast 10 sittings before I could see some improvement. How can he diagnose without getting a scan done and told me I dont need a scan? What are your thoughts on this ?
He told me to continue icing my neck and take B12, fishoil and D3. I am thinking to get a second opinion before starting his treatment. Has anybody heard of this treatment before ? Is it safe ? |

Soft tissue damage and inflammation wouldn't show on a scan would it?
The PT advice sounds right to me, but if you're concerned that there is more going on with your neck that may be causing this inflammation then I'd get another opinion to be on the safe side. I've had a lot of PT work on my spine over the years and it was extremely helpful, but I had xrays and scans done first. Are you concerned there is something wrong with vertebrae? |

They are trained to feel for tight /rock hard muscles, some have a better feel for these things than others , but it sounds like they know what they are talking about..
Were trigger points mentioned , muscle spasms? If they have IF stim instead of TENs that might be even better for healing.. If some proper soft tissue therapy can resolve part of your discomfort & symptoms wouldn't it be worth it? ![]() If it isn't helping you can stop going.. just don’t sign any locked in treatment program agreement.. A sticky thread from the TOS forum with trigger point info- might be handy to be aware of this- http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread125577.html

US is a very mild warming of internal tissues, nothing drastic heat wise, I think it should be very safe.
And any time you feel something is not helping , speak up and ask to try a different modality. http://physicaltherapyweb.com/therapeutic-ultrasound/ US is mentioned in the lower part of the page here- https://www.bch.org/rehabilitation-s...-syndrome.aspx

This has been my problem all along too. I thought it was my brain, but after treating the neck, I get tons of relief from that.
You need to see a NUCCA chiropractor, get a Theracane or Body Back Buddy for the TriggerPoints, have good posture, get a traction device to decompress the neck. I needed my muscles to release before any big changes happened. I needed a hot shower followoed immediately by Magnesium lotion and self-massage. Then, stretch and ROM exs. Then ice! Studiest show ten minutes on ten off. Take breaks so you can get blood flow. Too long of icing is damaging. never more han 20 min at a time. |
