Hi,
I am practicing a dance routine that involves a decently thick wooden cane (it's a cane and top hat type of dance). The routine involves swinging the cane a bit, but the moves are generally designed to be safe. They all have you swinging it away from your body and head. Well, today I was foolishly playing with the cane and accidentally whacked myself in the face with it. It was not a light tap and it was not a severe hit. I hit myself right under my left eye. Afterwards, the area hit did hurt a bit. The pain went away within about 5 minutes, however I could still feel the pain a little if I touched and applied pressure to the spot. Since then (5 hours ago), the pain has completely gone away. Even when I touch and apply pressure to the area, it feels as if I'm just touching another, unaffected spot on my face. There was and is no bruise in the area where the cane hit my face. My question is: Is it possible I gave myself any sort of concussion/tbi? Thank you for your consideration of my question and time. |

If you are not experiencing concussion symptoms, then you likely did not suffer a concussion. Just because you hit your head or face does not mean you suffered an injury. So, move on and be careful swinging that cane.

Ok, thank you for the answer. If you don't mind I have an additional question that pertains to this and possible future incidences: If you get hit in the face and that hit does not produce a bruise is it possible to sustain a concussion or tbi. In other words, if a hit is not powerful enough to produce a bruise is it also not powerful enough to cause an acceleration on the head that would cause a concussion or tbi?

A bruise has no bearing on whether your brain has been concussed. The symptoms of a concussion will be neurological not topical. You can have a concussion without a bruise and you can have a bruise without a concussion.
