Default Now 8 months since I hit my head... What am I doing wrong?

Hi all,

So I made a thread "5 months pcs, when will this be getting any better?" Obviously, 3 months ago. ( I am 14 btw )From then some of my symptoms have gone away. But I'm stuck with one or two last complaints. I call them complaints cause I don't know if there multiple symtoms or just one. Maybe someone can help.

So far, the way I describe these symtoms I find it VERY rare to find another pcs sufferer to have them. That's what kills me the most.

My symptom(s):

This dream feeling/sensory is off/touch is off/IDONTFEELTHESAME: basically, ever since my head I've had this symtom(s). i hit my head first on the back then on the side. (Same day) then, I got some sort of neck injury as all of my docs have been saying. ( I was playing football in the house that's how I got the Concussuons) so basically they don't know if it was 2 concussions in one day or just 1 and another one that made it worse, all I know is that I still don't feel the same.

Farigue:

This one is less brutal, like my other symtom(s) above ^ basically hen I do too much in the day my head gets tired, and I can't do anything else.

I have other small small symtoms , that I'm not worried about. I'm very concerned at the first one. Maybe someone can help.

Thanks,
Sam

This 'I don't feel the same' feeling is common. The fatigue is also common. They both just take time. Avoid overdoing it. It may be months for these last two symptoms to slowly fade away. For many, you may finally have realization that you have not had those symptoms in a while. Try to not focus on these symptoms and they will appear to go away faster.

Hi mark. So there actually was a point in time now that I remember about a mo or two after the injury, that the not feeling right symtom went away. But as soon as I realize it was gone, it came back, and I've had it for 90% of my Injury.

That feeling can be anxiety caused or related. Getting on with life while moderating activities and stress should be helpful.

Yea, that could be the case. But I'm just so frustrated mark. Most of my other symptoms have resolved but this just won't. It won't even get a little better. I just don't know why I am feeling this way still so long after the injury. And why this "not feel right/dreamy feeling"?

Could it be maybe I'm not resting enough? Or I'm doing something wrong to pro long the recovery?

Your 'not feeling right/dreamy' feeling may just take time. You may need to just try to move forward and live with this feeling for a while. Just don't take any risks.

What is you day like ? What activities do you do ? What is your diet like ? Do you get good continuous sleep at night ?

Have you read the Vitamins sticky at the top ?

Looking positively it sounds like your symptoms are gradually fading as they should, it's not uncommon for some to linger. It's gauging how much you can do without getting too brain fatigued, basically learning pacing ones self and recognise when to stop. Eventually your stamina will improve. One thing that might be making it harder is your age, you're brain is dealing with hormones and you are still growing plus it's repairing itself.

It's also common to dwell on PCS too much which doesn't help with recovery in my experience. A combination of exercise, rest and nutrition... and laughter is all we can do really.

As a footnote I would become 'head safe' and be mindful situations where you could get another concussion and take precautions, I know with me this will be a life long consideration.

Thank you super electric for the helpful tips and the reply. Really really appreciate and will use all the advise you gave me.

And mark, my day first starts off with school, (which is over in 3 days thank god). School has been a drag. And honestly could actually be the reason why this is taking so long. My syntoms always get worse in school. And I take 1-2 breaks at the nurse a day. Which can help. After school I take my first dosage of amantadine then I rest for 15-30 minutes. I try not to rest to much as it has be getting depressed about my symptoms. Then, I normally have a snack, exercise a little , or play video games. I probably have been playing too much video games as some times I play too long. But I'm not really playing anything too graphic and fast.

For vitamins I used to take b12 and omega 3 fish oil I believe, I stopped because I did not know if it interacted with amantadine, my parents tried to contact my doctor but we've haven't got a chance to reach them.

I struggle to think any video games are not too graphic or fast, unless you have something simple like Mario or Tetris or the older keyboard based war games. Hand-held controller based shoot-em-up video games are likely too much.

The issue you need to consider is: What are your peak activity levels during the day ?

With school over, I suggest you take this time to reduce your peak stimulation level considerably. It may also be good to stop the amantadine as it does not show a healing effect but rather is just a support for some cognitive functions. If you are not doing school work, a break from the push from the amantadine may be worthwhile.

And, bed rest may be counter-productive. Some simple low stimulation activities may be just as good. The brain needs good blood flow to heal. Do you have access to a fishing pond or such ? I do 100 piece jigsaw puzzles online at http://zone.msn.com/en/jigsaw/defaul...Strip_2_Jigsaw and http://thejigsawpuzzles.com/
and play Scrabble at http://www.games.com/game/masque-publishing/just-words

Nothing in the literature shows any interaction between amantadine and B-12 or fish oil. B-12 is needed for proper brain function. It would be worthwhile to add D-3. It has no interactions either.

So, rest from serious cognitive efforts, limit video games to simpler format games but keep active. Something life Frisbee golf would be good.

And,, give your brain time to heal. Try not to be anxious or frustrated as you wait for improvements.

My best to you.
