Default Lion's Mane Mushroom Extract

http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/1725583

You can add this supplement to my stack. What do I have to lose? It's safe and there seems to be virtually no side effects. I went with the Swanson's brand because they are trustworthy in my opinion. That's a discussion for another time (or another thread :P)

The study said:
Giving Lion's main to 30 Japanese patients with mild cognitive impairment resulted in significant benefits for as long as they consumed the mushrooms.

There are a number of compounds that cause this improvement as long as the substance is taken but the benefit is lost within days to a few weeks after discontinuation. I think amantadine is one.

It will be interesting to see if they can find a way to make the improvements last.

What is the best brand for this supplement? Do you want the fruiting bodies, the mycelium or both? Or an extract?

Swanson has some in powder form. If you find it helpful, it may save you money to buy it, and it might be more potent. Then you could buy empty capsules and fill them with the powder. A long and messy project, but something to do.

Let us know how it works!

This stuff is spendy, I've always been curious about it. It doesn't have lions mane, but it has some other nootropics.

Since the specific compound isn't identified, or that the reported effect(s) are not narrow, picking either the mycelium or spores only is likely not a good approach. Go with both would be my suggestion.

Back when I started this thread I did a lot of searching around the Internet. There are two different types of compounds. One exists in the fruiting bodies and one specifically in the mycelium. I've used both but it's really hard to tell what is doing what anymore in my brain. Still, I think this could help just trying to decide what to go with.

The mushroom matrix brand has good reviews.
