Default 5th concussion and PCS- weather causing dizziness?

I'm new to the forum but was looking to connect with people who have had similar experiences.
I got my fifth concussion in the beginning of June and since then it's been a nightmare. I finally felt I was making progress and then the weather changed drastically and I'm so dizzy, nauseous and exhausted that I've been unable to get out of bed. Has anybody else experienced worsening of their symptoms due to weather/pressure changes?
I just want to get back to myself and I'm getting so frustrated. Looking for feedback and suggestions from those in the same situation with PCS symptoms. As well as how to maybe expedite healing.

AmandaGPCS,

Welcome to NeuroTalk. Sorry to hear of your concussion. How did you get so many concussions ?

You are very early in your recovery, especially for your fifth. Some have struggles with weather and pressure making their PCS worse. I have not heard anybody suggest ways to deal with weather changes other than travel to an area with better weather. That is a rare opportunity.

What are you doing to help with your recovery ? What is your daily activity like ?

Is it the weather, or has the warmer weather brought a change is your activities and/or activity level?

I experience , on occasion, room spinning dizziness with my brain injury. I find this is most likely to happen when I'm overtired, from pushing myself too hard. I try to pace myself. A busy days need to be followed by a couple quiet ones.

I also experience weather related symptoms. I find when there are changes in air pressure my sinus congestion becomes much worse. As my sinus issues become worse, my dizziness and nausea worsens.

I've had some success with Claritin (the one that has loratadine and pseudoephedrine) and prescription sinus rinses. However, I believe Claritin has some withdrawal side effects.

I'd encourage you to try an antihistamine + decongestant combo (Claritin is one option) or at the very least a mild antihistamine if you associate your problems with sinus congestion or sinus headache.

Amanda,

Wind has always been something I have enjoyed. Since I hit my head when the wind blows anxiety can go ski high. Haven't a clue why but it sure does.

Hi Mark,

I'm a cross country rider (horses) so all of my injuries have come from there. It's reassuring to hear that it's still early. It's hard to be laid up for so long as I am usually a very active person.

I've been staying in most days. I don't drive yet as I am nervous about dizzy spells behind the wheel. I've also been seeing someone for matrix repatterning therapy which seems to help. I have an earthing sheet I sleep on as well.

Do you have any other suggestions for recovery?

Thanks for your reply,

Amanda

Default Will anyone see this post?

I know that I am many years later to this conversation but I have been looking to see if anyone else experiences weather related post-concussion symptoms and I found this thread in my search. I played football and am sure that I experienced several undiagnosed concussions (along with whatever that movie "Concussion" diagnosed those football players with). In November of 2017 I experienced a fairly moderate to severe concussion that left me struggling with post-concussion symptoms for over 2 years (partly because I pushed myself too hard trying to complete a masters degree). I was just beginning to feel completely healed when I suffered another substantial concussion (approximately 3 weeks ago) and have noticed that when the weather is overcast or raining I feel extremely tired (which is my largest symptom) and have verbal acquisition issues (like I hit a wall when trying to formulate sentences etc when I am talking with someone). I'll occasionally experience headaches as well. I am wondering if this is actually a thing (documented?)

is what actually a thing....

barometric pressure sensitivity is common for many people.

less light in the morning can change your wake up cycle. this can effect sleep quality which impacts cognitive function.

cause does not matter. the symptoms are what is addressed.

sorry, my shift key is broken. waiting for a new keyboard on its way from china
