So it's been almost 7 months since I slammed the right side of my head (right above my ear) into a hanging dining table light, and I still feel residual pain at the site of impact occasionally. It's like this sore, sometimes tender to touch pain. When it comes on it usually accompanies a feeling of fullness in my right ear and even earache at times. Saw a very good ENT who cleaned out a lot of wax from my right ear and told me it'd go away, but no luck.
This is very odd to me and I wonder if any others have this issue. It just doesn't make sense to me that structural soft tissue (assuming that's what it is) damage wouldn't have healed by now. Plus, the side of head is pretty bony, not even sure what may have gotten damaged in that area from the impact. Any ideas, interesting thoughts etc.?

February 2015: Slammed head into a heavy dining table light, another concussion. Current symptoms: Constant headaches that are mostly localized to the right side, head pressure, head sensitivity, moderate fatigue, fractured sleep, anxiety, mood swings, tremors, mild dizziness caused by head movement at times, neck pain, fullness in right ear, mild blurry vision Symptoms that went away: Light/noise sensitivity, nausea, severe fatigue, moderate blurry vision, tinnitus Current meds: Tramadol |

Donnie,
I am 16 months post injury....I still have sore and sensitive areas at the impact sites. I have never really had what I would classify as "classic headaches" just a constant soreness. The tenderness comes and goes to where some spots can't be touched and I still feel a hot knife stabbing me on occasion. I too can't figure why bone and muscle would still be sore after this length of time and why aggravating that seems to be a sign of the brain being irritated at something. Don't know if that makes sense. Bud |

The last time I hit my head really badly and needed stitches as well. I don't get real pain though I do have what feels like a very tender area. It's also the same place as I hit my head the first time.
I've noticed that the hair follicles don't sit flat anymore. They've been shifted or bent. Even just a breeze through my hair can cause me to notice a tender feeling. Not sure if that's what's happening to you though of course. It doesn't really bother me, but it is something I'm aware of when I brush my hair or go out in the wind. Very odd really. |

I've had pain/burning sensation at the point where I got hit (left cheekbone) for over two years after the injury, it would come and go, seemed like anxiety would make it worse. It eventually went away, at least I haven't experienced it in a while.

12/02/2012 - Light concussion at boxing practice. Ended up having PCS for about 3 months. March 2013 - Thought that since most of my symptoms resolved I could start having fun again. Went snowmobiling once (didn't hit my head) and concussion symptoms returned and got even worse than before. June 2013 - accidentally bumped my head against a deck railing, and had a month-long setback. November 2013 - drove to work after a big snowstorm and the roads were very rough, ended up having another setback. 2014 - Having setbacks after coughing/sneezing too much, or someone slapping me on the back, or any other significant jarring. Feb 2014 - Started seeing Atlas Orthogonal chiro - most helpful doc so far. June 2014 - Two months of physical/visual therapy - no noticeable improvement. September 2014 - Diagnosed with Perilymph Fistula in right ear. November 2014 - Fistula surgery (switched to left ear before the surgery after additional testing). January 2016 - Quit work to "work" on figuring out PCS, so far it seems that eyes/vision issues are the most contributing factor, especially computer work. Current symptoms are: inconsistent sleep patterns, headaches, vertigo/dizziness, anxiety/panic attacks, mental fog/problems with concentration, problems with computer screens. |

There are also cranial neuralgias.
Any impact can affect or hurt the nerves and blood vessels in the area. Last edited by Lara; 08-28-2015 at 05:50 PM. Reason: correction - neuralgias |

Lara,
I wear my hair short now cuz my impact area has two parts and hair that sticks straight out in those areas. Like you wind blowing through my hair makes it tingle there. Bud |

Bud, it can give you a cow lick where you didn't have one before.
My hair is long so the weight of it probably makes it worse too. [p.s. not sure if cow lick means the same thing over your way as here.] Last edited by Lara; 08-28-2015 at 08:59 PM. |

MM,
I was given 4 genetically....one at each corner. Any time someone new cuts my hair they have a bit of a time with the 2 up front! My daughter usually cuts my hair and has it down. Good sign maybe if we can talk about the lighter side a tad? Bud |
