i just don't see how a chiropractic adjustment will repair torn or damaged ligaments.. theres no logic in these adjustments.. i understand if theres major bone misalignment .. but theres no way a chiropractor can regenerate or repair your C1/C2 ligaments. theres no logic or science in upper cervical chiropractic. chiropractic as a whole can work great if you have major misaligments in the spine overall. but it won't restore damaged tissue.

Blessed...

I had almost the exact same experience as you at the Atlas Chiro. that I went to. I have continued dizziness, fatigue and vision problems along with a lot of neck tension and inflammation. I wanted to explore the possibility of the upper neck being the cause of some of my symptoms.

The Chiro. only did the atlas adjustment with the same machine you are talking about. Even after I repeatedly asked him to work on the soft tissue to relieve the tension, he still would only do the adjustment and insist that the muscles would release over time.

I began to get very skeptical and the adjustments did not help with my symptoms. I also realized that he would ask me how I was feeling at the beginning of the appointment, and if I said good, then he would feel my neck and say that I held my adjustment. If I said I was feeling bad, he would then feel my neck and say it was because I didn't hold my adjustment.

I stopped going after a while. Maybe it helps some people, but honestly I don't understand why a lot of people on this forum suggest going to see Atlas chiros. That's just my opinion.

Good luck.

Inflammation can decrease blood flow. It may increase blood flow to the local tissue that is inflamed but the addition pressure can reduce blood that needs to flow through the area. Look up compartment syndrome and see the damage inflammation can do. It is valuable to reduce inflammation so it does not reduce blood flow.

A chiro adjustment can cause an inflammatory response because of the movement of the atlas, etc. There is no positive value to that inflammatory response. Reducing it or preventing it can allow the atlas to settle into place.

In this instance, the additional pressure inflammation can reduce vascular blood flow to the brain stem and restrict proper nerve fiber signal transmission reducing its effective function.

This is why it is important to check foot or hand nerve sensation when there is inflammation higher up the extremity.

Regarding chiros being quacks or such. There is a broad spectrum of chiros and their skill sets. Some may provide limited benefit. Others can provide very important benefit. I've been treated by over 18 different chiros over 35 years. Only 4 provided substantial benefit. 4 provided some limited benefit and the rest were just going through the motions. It is up to the patient to decide to continue or move on to a different chiro or treatment protocol.

blessed's point is to verify her experience with outside perspective.

Not everyone has torn or damaged ligaments..
Some might have strains or muscle injury..

Every injury is unique.. what works for some may not work for others..

My feeling is many service professions have "quacks" - like some mechanics, sales persons , even doctors (gasp) the list is too huge LOL

Buyer beware in all aspects is my motto.. seek out reputable providers.

muscle strains and injuries are pretty easy to repair, just physical therapy and some acupuncture will be suffecient. as with my first concussion it only took about 10 sessions of acupuncture to cure my problems.. this time its my ligaments and it will be far harder to cure..

I was re-checked today and was told my Atlas has held. It has been a week now without needing an adjustment. This is good, but I am not seeing a reduction in my dizziness, head pressure, or brain fog. I am still being told this will resolve with time as long as my Atlas holds. I am not so sure.

Atlas may have nothing to do with your symptoms. It appears this A O Chiro believes Atlas is critical to any malady or symptom. Some hold this extreme belief but the good ones don't.
