Question Curious about vision treatment for PCS and TBI

Just wondering who has looked into binocular vision dysfunction? A friend recently referred me to an online questionnaire for PCS and TBI patients and I scored pretty high as a candidate suffering from BVD. Has anyone else found that their concussion led to eye issues later down the road?

The test was from ** , in case anyone else has done it. TIA for your thoughts!

mscotty,

Welcome to NeuroTalk.

Many have benefited from getting a thorough assessment of vision functions. Some use behavior optometrists. A referal link to a behavior optometrist in your area is at https://nora.cc/healthcare-locator.html

How are you doing ?

Are you struggling with any symptoms we can help you with ?

Feel free to introduce yourself and tell us about your injury and struggles. There are lots of good people here.

My best to you.

Scotty,

Don't know why what I posted for you on this never appeared.

I don't know what the medical name for my case is but my left eye isn't looking where it is supposed to. It doesn't like to focus with the right eye or remain focused when it does.

I do therapy in office once a week and everyday at home.

I can see some improvement after 5 weeks now, being tired or stressed has a definite effect.

It was at 20 months post injury when a conversation with Mark shed some light on the possibility of eye problems, he also pointed me to the doc I am seeing.

mscotty,
It took me about 7-8 months post injury to realize I was shutting my left eye every time I tried to read. I wasn't reading much to begin with as my headaches & dizziness were significant enough to make reading very frustrating. I referred myself to a neuro-developmental optometrist that I had referred patients to. I have binocular issues & ocular vestibular issues. Have been wearing prism lenses for 18 months, attend vision therapy 1x/week for an hour & had been doing my home program daily. I'm getting frustrated after 18 months with daily vision & vestibular therapy home exercises and am not the compliant patient right now. I do see much progress in vision & vestibular issues, but not enough and know I still have a way to go.

I highly recommend finding a qualified optometrist as hopefully it will help you on the road to recovery.

Please feel free to ask for any more info and share your story with us!

Smsotr,

I realized just last week I close my left eye watching tv and in full sun.

When I suddenly realized I was doing this watching tv I closed my right eye to see what I was trying to avoid by closing the left eye...low and behold the tv screen is much brighter with the left eye.

Smstor and Bud,
Like you I too have issues with my left eye. I wear prisms and have attended weekly vision therapy for almost 30 weeks and practise daily at home. I have shown improvement, however like Bud it is now slow going. I have recently had involuntary movements in my left, moving side to side and rolling in short burst intervals if that makes sense.

Initially I thought it was due some ticker tape lighting on a sign, but have since had it happen in a grocery store and random places. The only warning I get is a slight tugging and ache around the eye. When this happens I difficulty with balance and I suspect I panic a little which really exacerbates other symptoms.

The neuro optometrist says my eye is stressed and I should use moist heat and rest the eye for 10-15 minutes two to three times a day.

Have either of you had anything like that happen? Remedies? Triggers?

Almost,

My left can move back and forth trying to focus at times.

The image splits and goes back and forth trying to bring it back to one. Doesn't last long and is usually when tired or stressed towards the end of a day.

I also have issues with my left eye. I have gone to 2 different Internists and 1 Neurologist and they have not been able to identify any abnormalities with my vision. In fact, they said in fine and ready to go back to work despite all of the information I gave them. I went to a Physical Therapist and within 10 minutes, he was able to identify many issues with my eyes. As a result, I see him for Vestibular Therapy three times per week (just started last week). He could see that my eyes are not working together and my left eye goes around in circles when it is forced to do too much. Some other things he noticed are saccadic eye movement, convergence insufficiency, and pursuit eye movement disorder.

My Neurologist left me a voice mail telling me there is nothing more he can do for me which is laughable because he hasnt done anything at all. I am now trying to get a referral to see a Neuro Opthalmologist so I can get the official medical diagnosis to satisfy Disability paperwork and to receive additional treatment. This whole process of getting referrals and waiting to get on the calendar to see specialists who may or may not be willing to help is frustrating.

I am able to seefor longer periods of time on my smartphone with the brightness dimmed, but am not able to work on a computer for longer than 10 minutes because of my field of loss issues.

Cat,

Way to keep investigating....we really are responsible for our own health in the long run and it takes a little effort to find a doc who believes us at times.

Thanks for everyone's responses. I had an appointment at Vision Specialists of MI myself recently and it was a wonderful experience. They don't do vision therapy or even recommend it, but their prism glasses are made in-house because no one else makes the prescriptions as minute/small as they do. The glasses have absolutely helped my headaches and dizzy spells. Woohoo! Now I will do my part to spread the word about binocular vision dysfunction!
