You did not have any problems before??
I have had several concussions in my life, sports related and I have never heard of o person with your problems after a clean cat scan or a mir??
What's up with that.

maax,

The vast majority of PCS sufferers and even those with severe PCS symptoms usually have clear CT Scans and MRI's. I have never had anything abnormal show in any of my 4 MRI's, a PET scan and a few CT Scans but I am on disability due to my PCS symptoms. Over the 6 plus years I have been on NT, I've seen less than 10 people who have had any positive indications on an MRI unless the injury included a skull fracture.

Wiix,

Too much sleep is counter to recovery. Quality normal amounts of sleep are best. Quiet rest is good meaning low levels of stimulation with moderate physical effort.

Thedash,
Welcome to the club and sorry to hear about your struggles with PCS.
As always, you've received good advice from the posts above.
I would revisit the nail salon, but ask for an appointment at a slow time--maybe first thing in the AM or just ask when it is quiet (2 PM before the after school/work rush?). Instead of using the electric file, see if they can use the old-fashion kind. Try having a pedicure. I find doing that & turning on the massage chair very calming & was one of the ways I have used to overcome feelings of anxiety around other people. Also, it might help to get a simpler regular manicure a few times and build up to the type of manicure you usually have that takes so long.
Baking cookies was a good idea, but next time, try something less complex so you are not hyper focusing too long.
Gardening is one of the best calming activities for me. Find something that makes you happy and give it a try and let us know how it goes. By sharing, we all learn.

Update, almost four weeks :(

Thank you all for taking the time to reply, I used a lot of your advice and still am
I don’t often post on message boards and I was shocked to see how many people here were willing to reply to my post offering advice and support. It feels good to know that there are people that truly understand the symptoms and how tough it really is.

It will be 4 weeks this sunday.
I wanted to feel a lot better this week, but at least Im feeling a bit better than last week. I’m trying to adjust and work with / deal with some of the symptoms :(

The good thing is, I think by next week I’ll have a recovery game plan from the doctors (Maybe Physio, chiropractor, rehabilitation etc)

Here’s a bit of an update:
I am having the same symptoms as the day I made the post. The headaches are 24 hours a day, tough time focusing, always tired/run down, occasionally dizzy, short term memory issues, can’t filter sounds, left ear rings)

I had 4 doctors appointments, 3 days in a row and I’m feeling the after math of “over doing it”.
(intense pressure in my head, exhaustion, nauseous, lightheaded, weepy, anxious)
Because my fall happened at work, the workers compensation board sends me to their doctors and they do all the tests etc and come up with a “back to work” type plan. It sounds like they have a concussion rehabilitation centre, I'm hoping that they’ll be able to help me with some of the symptoms.

I’m wondering everyone,

what do you all think of acupuncture help with my headaches? Would it be something worth trying? (Seeing a chiropractor is also on my list)

Should I be getting better, quicker? I keep wondering if its normal that this long after my concussion I am finding it almost impossible to be in a loud busy place, or to cry /feel overwhelmed at too many things happening at once, headaches all day etc) or is this normal for almost 4 weeks? I feel like I know the answer, everyones brain is different, but I just thought these symptoms would be getting better by now :(

Thank you all for your support

I had no choice but to sleep for two years. It takes time to heal. I am almost back 100% now. At the time I couldn't see or use my hands.

Thedash,

It is not uncommon for concussion to take this long to heal. Statistically, 85% of concussions heal within the first 6 weeks without any intervention. The remaining 15% recover over a wide range of time spans. From the start, I would have predicted you are part of the 15%. When there are physical injuries that need to heal, that puts a strain on the system. The brain does not heal well under stress.

In my view, your healing will start when you have resolved your headaches. They are likely due to physical injury to your neck plus the concussive injury to your brain. Until the neck recovers, the concussion part will be slow to heal and give you headache relief.

Chiros can be helpful with the neck but you need to find chiros who use gentle techniques. The injury is subtle. the treatment should be subtle. Then, you need to support the neck treatment with good sleeping posture.

Many have tried acupuncture. Some claim it has helped. Research suggests it is of minimal benefit.
