Mark,

That was the most accurate description of what has happened to me since my injury almost 4 years ago that I have ever read...thank you! The way you stated, "the mind will either freeze, get confused, outburst or just give up and make a bad decision" is spot on for me.

I tend to get confused first, as if I can't remember what the next step or words to say will be. I have described it to friends as if I were reading a page from a book, then after turning the page over, either the next page has a few seemingly unrelated words or is completely blank. When I try to turn back to the page I was reading before, it is usually blank, leaving me with no reference points to figure out what I am doing or supposed to be doing. This usually leads to a freeze as you described.

My outbursts come in the form of inappropriate laughter. I don't mean to laugh, I just do. And I don't know if I give up and make bad decisions though.

I have tried looking up in several articles what this is or why this happens, and have never found anything that gave me an answer until reading your response. I will look up more information on limited digit span now, thanks to you.

Take care, M-i-m

Mim,

Sounds familiar.

The only thing that keeps me from rushing to bad decisions when I hit that confused state is knowing that a bad decision has consequences so I stick to looking for the correct way.

Sometimes I have to walk away to keep from hitting something then I settle down.

I want to say thank you for the responses. I them and all had so much meaning for me. It makes me feel less alone.

I'm sorry that it's taken me so long to reply but it's difficult for me to respond sometimes. I need to have a very clear head, or "good head day" to reply to multiple messages. Thank you for your replies.

Bud, I'm sorry that I chuckled about your seatbelt story but it sounds so much like me and it's really good to know I am not the only one I used to make fun of myself before the concussion when I did silly things and now it just seems to be a part of life.

Mark I think you have a point about the multiple digits. I definitely can only keep a very small amount of information on my clipboard (as it's mentioned in the video) without forgetting something before that I had learned, if that makes any sense.

yesterday was a great achievement for me because I sent in some insurance forms for a couple of loans that I have. I should have sent them in 4 months ago but it has taken me this long. Filling out forms seems to really mess up my head. ago or almost a year ago but I kept hoping that I get better and didn't want to be claiming insurance when I didn't need to be but sending them off yesterday felt like I had achieved something amazing I think it took me four months to fill out those forms and it feels like

Joanne,

No need to apologize for the chuckle, glad I could make you smile.

I try to find humor in things...I decided to name my boat recently, I am down to either "flying anchor" or "the anchor stops here"

Joannetb,

When you need to fill out handwritten forms, it may help to use 1 or 2 pieces of paper to cover the other lines. Often, all the blank spaces on the page with 'invisible' questions marks in them is just too much to process. It can help to cover the blank spaces. It may work to just cover the lines below the line you are filling out because you have already made sense of and answered those spaces above.

For those who need to fill out forms online........

If a form is available online as a PDF download, many can be filled out on the computer. Not all PDF forms have been set with permission to fill them out. The Adobe Reader that is often embedded in your browser may not allow you to fill out the form but the stand alone Adobe Reader may.

If you can fill out the PDF on you computer, you usually cannot save it but you can print it, sign it and send it. Or, sometimes you can open your print dialogue and in the select printer option, select print to file. This will save a copy of the filled out form.

If anybody has any questions about these issues, there are more details I can share.

Thanks Mark! That's a great idea! If I can bring it down to seeing only one question I think that would help a lot! I never thought of that.

This might sound crazy but I seem to notice far more than I used to...for example I was looking for an ant hill in my yard yesterday. Even though the ants were spaced apart, If I looked at 1 ant, I could literally point out about 9 others and their movements without moving my eyes from the one. It's crazy! I could never do that before.
Maybe there IS an upside. Hahaha. Too bad it can't become a super power.

Thanks again for your reply.

And Bud, Please tell me you did not get you concussion from an anchor!

Joanne,

My 20 pound anchor was skipping on the water while I was doing 26 mph.( I forgot the anchor was on the ski platform while I was idling to another place and my grandson wanted to go fast, it fell off and rather than sinking it was bouncing on the water surface).

When I made a turn the anchor flew into the boat and hit my head on the left side Smashed the skull) and wrapped around to the front and poked a hole above my right eye at the hairline.

I'm wish I was a math guy so I could figure how fast that anchor was traveling to catch up and the energy it had.

Anyways I am glad it missed my wife, 2 daughters and 3 grandchildren, I would hate to have been responsible for one of them going through this or worse.
